We are considering moving our wedding to July 1st, 2010. Clearly it is MUCH cheaper to be married on a thursday then our original date, of friday. It is wrong to ask our guests, including those who will be driving 2-3 hours to take off work? I am so torn. Do whats best for us or our guests?
We must be married in July because FH is a teacher and so is more then 1/2 of my bridal party.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
In my opinion it's a don't
I went to a wedding on a Monday (Memorial day) and a lot of people had to leave before it was over to get ready for work the next day.
If your guests take off that Thursday for the wedding, you can't expect them to take off that Friday too. They will have to leave early.
I'm a teacher too but I'm getting married on 9/27 for sentimental reasons. How about the February break or the April break? You will definitely get a break on the price pp if you have it in February and you'll still be able to go on a Honeymoon.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
When we went around looking at Rhs two told me that 'Thursday is the new night for weddings.' (the Crescent and LE).They were both booked (or so they said) every Thursday night last summer. I say go for it if you really want to, but just be aware that not as many people will stay late if they work Friday and some people may not be able to come at all...most people would prefer Friday night over Thursday night. I would definitely send out STDs

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
I personally wouldnt do it because of the whole leaving early bit....that would annoy me....BUT the important people will be there and not care about wether they have work or not the next day....So you guys should def do what suits the two of you and if it means a thurs night, do it!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
I'm booked for a Thursday!
I loved the idea, because we're getting everything we want for less money..it was a win/win situation for us!
I asked family members and friends, and they all said they'd be there no matter what..plus my family and friends don't mind staying out late...and most said they'd take off the next day and make a long weekend out of it, a couple even got excited about it lolz..
It's a lot more popular than I thought..I only had a choice of 2 days when I picked my date!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
I'd call a bunch of other venders and see if its really cheaper all around - flowers, photo, dj.. if its just cheaper for the hall then it may not be worth it ..

i'm booked for a Thursday wedding! many places i've looked at said Thursday is the 'new' thing that a lot of people are doing. it gives people a long weekend... just remember to send out SAVE THE DATE a year or 10 months in advance. if the ones you invite cares n love you, they wouldnt mind going to a thursday wedding at all!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
here's a thread on thursday weddings from a few weeks ago.
ETA: IMHO, the bickering you'll find on the thread is like a microcosm of what you can expect from family and friends. some will be fine with it, and some will be annoyed. i also posted on that old thread, so you can read my response there.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
If so may important people are teachers, the thursday won't be an issue for them. I got married on a Sunday night because I am Jewish and a teacher -- had to be in the summer because I wanted a long honeymoon and some free time before the wedding. It had to be a sunday because sundown is so late in the summer, and it had to be night because there was no way I was getting up at the crack of dawn on my wedding day -- I am not a morning person. There were people who left early, and there were those that stayed to the end. I recently went to a Sat. night wedding, and there were people leaving at 11 when the party was over at midnight. I think a lot of people, especially our parent's friends, tend to leave right after the cake cutting regardless of when it is. If it is what you want to do, do it!!!! You will never, ever make everyone happy, so stop trying and do what you and FH want! Good luck!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
welll i know everyones family is different but mine LOVES to dance and drink and party! so i know a friday or sat night would be better for them but as long as you give everyone enough time to take off and stuff, then it should work out great.goood luck!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
It depends on your crowd. My friend had a Thursday night wedding in summer '07 and everyone came and partied to the very end which was like midnight. It was really great and worked out awesome! I think with the crowd I had at my wedding, it wouldn't have turned out that way... I had mine on a Fri night which worked out better. So think about the people who'll be there and if they'd be able to do it... if you're crowd wouldn't mind then go for it, if not maybe think about a Fri night.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
If it were me, I wouldn't do it. All of our guests were OOT, so it was a struggle for them to get to us for our Saturday wedding.
But again, that's me, not you. You need to do what's best for you.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
my cousin got married at Fox hollow on a thurs a few yrs ago. Yes, it was very nice.. but it was alot to ask of people to take off work or work a 1/2 day thurs. Then for the people that didnt take off on Friday, it was a little 'low key'. I agree, the price cannot be beat, but I think a fri is always better.
