We are considering moving our wedding to July 1st, 2010. Clearly it is MUCH cheaper to be married on a thursday then our original date, of friday. It is wrong to ask our guests, including those who will be driving 2-3 hours to take off work? I am so torn. Do whats best for us or our guests?
We must be married in July because FH is a teacher and so is more then 1/2 of my bridal party.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
Thats a tuff one. However if u and ur Fh like the idea then do it! I was told the same thing when i was looking at RH, Thursday is the new Friday, I was even told that they are starting to get weddings booked on wednesday.. SO whatever u want to do that will make u both happy then do it!

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
never been to a thursday wedding so dont know what its like. However, I have been to sunday weddings and well people have to go to work the next day for sunday weddings so not sure what the difference is then if thats what it comes down to. But the issue might be more about people going straight after work or taking off, but then again people have to do this for friday weddings so same thing again. Its funny bc obviously friday and sunday weddings are very popular but people will use reasons against a thursday that i see would also apply towards a friday or sunday wedding.
Some people it wont be a problem for, such as your teacher friends and family. Also since its the thursday before 4th of july weekend, some will be able to get out early from work, depending on their job. In the financial industry, people who work in the stock market, they will have half a day that friday before. And quite a few ppl actually take off that day. Whenever we had half a day at work, half the people took off.
ALso since its 4th of july weekend, some halls give a discount if you do it on a holiday weekend so if you do it that sunday, the day of 4th of july you might also get it for a good price. Although, holiday weddings are becoming VERy popular so now many halls dont do th is anymore since they know they can book a holiday wedding.
are you having alot of OOT guests? if so then thats something to consider. They would have to take off a couple of days, and if your OOT guests are attending the RD dinner then again thats even more days off they have to take.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
I've never been to a Thurs wedding but don't think they are bad -- then again I'm a law student with no Friday classes and my friends and I go out on Thursdays normally!
The only concern I'd have would be OOT guests -- many of our OOTers took off a lot of time (they stayed in the city Tues-Fri and came to LI Sat-Mon) but some other people flew Sat and left Mon, missing just one day of work. Your OOTers would have to miss Wed, Thurs, Fri which might be a concern for some on top of the costs of flight and hotel.
You also might have a lot of people skip your ceremony and just come to the reception (this happens on Fri weddings too) and you need to think about whether this would bother you.
In the end, if you give enough notice the people you love will find a way to be there whether it's a Wed at noon, a Thurs night or a Sat night

I personally would not do it. I went to a thursday wedding and it was like another bride said, low key, everyone just kept talking about how they had to go to work the next day. in the end it is your, and your FH's decision, especially if you are the ones paying for the wedding. Maybe you should discuss it with family and friends to get their opinions.

If you want a small, close wedding go for it. Personally we have huge families and alot of friends who we'd want there and i wouldnt want to have them lose wages and have to drive so long back and forth on the beginning of a holiday weekend.

Re: Thursday wedding do or don't?
This is a hard ?. My initial response is stick to the weekend. It really depends on your family and friends. If you are having a large wedding then I think it is better for guests to be on the weekend. We initially considering a Friday night on Sunday wedding because Saturday nights were so expensive and the min guarantee was so high. We looked and looked and finally found The Metropolitan in March that offered us a great $ pp and a lower min. We are happy with Metropolitan is not a very outdoorsy kinda lace and either is the month of March! I am a school counselor so the only downside is we are waiting until the summer to go on our honeymoon. I like the idea anyway because hopefully we can be a little more flexible with flights and dates which will be better on price. Seriously good luck with anything that you decide to do. Go with your gut. We knew we wanted a Saturday so we sacrificed other things. gl
