tiara vs. headband?

What's the difference? I thought they were basically the same, except that in my mind, tiaras look more like 'crowns'...... but I was looking at headpieces on a website and one of the products said it could be worn as 'either a headband or a tiara'.... so is there a significant difference between them? Thanks!

Re: tiara vs. headband?

The only difference between the one that could be worn either way may be a comb...i know I wore a headband and it did not have a comb but most tiaras I tried had one or two on the ends.

ETA: Like the poster below me, tiara stands up, headband lays flat on your head

Re: tiara vs. headband?

I think a headband lies flatter on the hair and a tiara kind of sticks up a little... I don't know if that's right, but that's how I picture the difference.

Re: tiara vs. headband?

I disagree. I think that sometimes tiaras can border on cheesy - hand bands look nice and don't make you think of a little girl playing dress up

Re: tiara vs. headband?

One is more like a crown (tiara) and the other is flat. some headbands come w/ an elastic or loops at the end to thread some kind of ribbon or elastic to make it tighter.
As a sidebar, I agree w/ some ladies that I prefer the headband because it doesn't make me feel like I'm going to my Sweet Sixteen.
It's definitely about personal preference.
