Tiaras/headpieces - what is the deal with this????
What is the difference between a reasonably priced Tiara from E-bay or Tri-County and an OUTRAGEOUSLY, RIDICULOUSLY priced tiara from a bridal shop?? Um... I don't THINK they are made of silver and diamonds!!! The difference in prices is so huge -- there's got to be something I'm missing here!!! Anyone have a clue?
Also -- does anyone know of any other place I can go to shop for tiaras besides E-bay or Tri-county? I think I prefer to see it in person.

Patchogue Floral. I spent literally an hour trying different ones on. They have hundreds, all styles, all price ranges. I wound up getting my tiara there, it was $100. Probably would have been $300 or $400 in a bridal salon and it took 3 weeks to come in.
ETA: The saleswomen were so helpful and it was no pressure/no stress to buy or decide on the spot.

You can see them in person at Tri-County.
Others have suggested a place in Oceanside above the movie theatre on Long Beach Road.

Some (not all) cheap ones do look cheap to me. I saw some in David's Bridal that look very costumey to me. Less expensive ones usually have rhinestones, while more expensive ones have crystals. I've heard crystals photograph better, but that's pure heresay.
Also the metals may be different , which is only really an issue if you want to keep it as airloom & don't want it to tarnish or anyting. Also, custom made ones are obviously more expensive. That being said some tiaras are jstu expensive because they are sold in Bridal salons.
My mother & I looked at some at Barrons & she really liked them & she always thinks everything looks cheap & she approved of those!

What you can do is try on different types and styles, and then make a note of how high they are, how much detail they have, what they're made of, etc and find a similar style on e-bay for a lot less money. I got mine from Princess Bride Tiaras (they sell on e-bay and their own website) and it is very good quality for a reasonable price.

My sister got a really expensive one from a bridal shop and I got an inexpensive one from ebay. When you put them next to eachother there isn't much of a difference. The metal on mine bends a little more.

You know, I'm so glad you replied and I knew you would...
Yeah --- she's the one I'm talking about with the ridiculous prices. I'm sorry but $650 bucks for a tiara is NOT reasonable to ME... they were beautiful but not THAT beautiful. Hats off to anyone to does think that's reasonable!

Shockingly, I got my tiara at Kleinfeld's for $40!!! It was originally $120, but it was on sale. Another girl who works in the store came up to me and said, 'You know you can have that tiara made into a piece of jewelry after the wedding.' She had mistaken my headpiece for a Swarovski one they sell that's like over $400!
