Tiffany & Co - NY

hey girls,

FH got my ring at tiffany's and ive been meaning to get it resized. i tried doing it here (in cali) but they said it would take 2 weeks because they mail it to NY to have it done.

neways im going to NY tomorrow so i called the NY one and she asked what kind of ring i had, and then told me 2 weeks. does this make any sense??

has anyone gotten their ring resized there? should i call them up again and ask?

thanks!

For all you ladies thinking about getting your rings resized.... I wouldn't & didn't. Reason being... we are all going to attempt to have children I'm sure. And when we do, they are just going to have to recut the ring cuz your fingers swell. Anyway, what I did was had my jeweler put shots (little white gold balls that get soddered) into the ring thereby avoiding cutting & recutting the ring. The whole process takes a whopping 15 minutes to do, the shots are totally hidden, and it's comfortable.

Just a thought for your .

Good luck!

Send Sonicstef a PM. Her ring is also Tiffanys.

I wouldn't leave my diamond. I'd get it done by a jeweler while i watched!

I agree don't leave it alone. Also, the little balls really work that they put in the inside they are comfortable. When they resize the ring it never looks the same afterwards. I learned the hardway on my first setting.

I totally disagree w/the comments about getting the ring resized. I recently had my first child and I had all my rings resized by the original jeweler that we purchased them from. Nothing about them looks any different than the day I first wore them all.

Claud, I agree it was probably my jerky first jeweler who I am not too pleased with as you can tell!!! He ruined my first setting by resizing it!

i didn't mean anything bad about getting the ring resized - what i meant to say was that the shots can be removed a lot easier than having the ring resized over and over again - you can put in as many as you want - i've lost 25 pounds since we got engaged, and i now have 3 shots in my ring, and you can't see them unless i actually take off the ring....

I would never leave my ring with any jeweler but I feel very comfortable leaving it with Tiffanys.

My ring did not need to be resized so I didnt deal with that but I leave it there for cleanings all the time.

Back to the original question - 2 weeks sounds right.

Ladies... I work in the jewelry industry. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, leave your diamond anywhere with any jeweler... even Tiffany's. Any reputable (sp) jeweler, if they need to keep the ring, will take out the center stone, and give it to you to take with you. They re-set it when you come back to pick up the ring. Even Tiffany's has to hire employees.. and you never know what can happen. It can so easily be switched with cz or moissanite, which even jewelers can not tell the difference by sight (We actually sell testers just for moissanite). Just be careful!!

You said it best decbride02! and as for cleanings they do it right in front of me at my jeweler..i watch like a hawk!!

The only place I would trust to give my ring to would be tiffany's BUT having said that - about 11 years ago my parent's bought me a tiffany ring with saphires and pearls. The pearls wore down because I wore it everyday. My mother brought it to Tiffany's to replace the pearls as a surprise. When she went to pick up my ring she noticed it looked to new to be mine. It turns out they LOST my ring and so they simply gave her a new one! So no matter what reputation a place has there can always be mistakes.

I used to work for Tiffany's in NY and you can feel 100% safe leaving your ring there. It does take them longer than usual because they are SO BUSY and especially around this time of year. It is their busiest season.

I have had them appraise a few of my Tiff. pieces and size a few and it has taken the same amount of time.

I would not leave my ring at just any jewler, but you can, with complete confidence - leave it at Tiffany's.

Hope this helps...

I had to leave my ring to be reset at a jeweler who we have been dealing with for a while and before i left he took that scope (not sure the name) the thing to look into the diamond and showed me a couple of things that made my diamond unique, could be a flaw, extra facet that you can only see through that. When I went to pick it up the next day I looked through that again and could see all the same markers...I had been apprehensive so it really put my mind at ease. Just an idea...

Does your diamond have a certificate #? I am not sure if its specific to Lazare diamonds or all diamonds that are appraised to have a certificate #, but that's one way to check if you're getting the right diamond back... The way my ring is set is that the certificate # shows up between the prongs under a microscope, so you don't have to take the stone out of the setting to even see... Do Tiffany's diamonds have certificate #s on them?

I personally wouldn't want to leave my ring w/ anyone for 2 weeks. Not that I wouldn't trust Tiffany's, I just wouldn't want to be without my ring for one day let alone 2 weeks. If you want to have it resized and you're coming to NY- will you be in the city around the diamond district? They car resize it for you in 15 minutes or less and you watch them do it- and you never have to be without your ring

thanks so much for all your advice girls. my ring is only about id say half a size too big. i still wear it everyday but am just really cautious. i don't want to leave it anywhere for 2 weeks ... at first i was scared about trusting them by FH is in love wiht tiffany's and assured me it would be ok hehe

but id just feel so lonely without it!

maybe ill just stick it out with this ring for now if i have to ill send it off to NY from the local tiffany's 2 weeks before FH comes here next so he can bring it with him.

thanks again!!!

Re: Tiffany & Co - NY

Tiffany's rings come with a certificate. When I got my Tiffany ring it was little big, and I had a local jeweler insert an extension. I have gained some weight, and I recently took them out on my own. Thus, if you don't want to leave it with Tiffany's, go to a local jeweler and have them do that in your view.
