Timber Point in Great River?

Timber Point in Great River?

Any opinions? My fiance and I won't be able to get there for a tour until this weekend. It looks beautiful on the website, and the price I was quoted was reasonable, although the number of guests they want us to guarantee is at our high end. Is the food good? What's the staff like?

Re: Timber Point in Bay Shore?

I almost booked there. The place is beautiful. Lessing's has a great reputation so you won't be dissapointed! The set up of the ball room is a little strange...The dancefloor is to one side instead of in the middle. Other than that Iiked it!

BTW: It is in Great River- A little further East than bayshore

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

Thanks--I fixed it. I knew that, I don't know why I put Bay Shore. I did notice the dance floor is on one side. We toured the Three Village Inn on Saturday. We might go with them because it would be cheaper--we could do their 'smaller' wedding, and if we did, the dance floor would also be on the side, not in the middle, as they close off a third of the room for smaller weddings. I love the 3VI, I go there for Brunch with Santa every year, and I know their food is good. I'm concerned about the food at Timber Point. If we tour, we're not going to get to taste the food, right? But the food is one of the most important parts to us--no matter how beautiful the venue, if the food is tasteless, it's not worth it to us. However, it does look as if both Timber Point and the 3VI are both Lessings, so I assume the food is good. It's all so confusing!! As much as I love the 3VI, Timber Point looks newer and more updated. It would be more money, though. I think my fiance and I were a bit innocent about this whole thing, the prices of weddings has shocked us. We do have the money, it's just that whatever we spend on the wedding comes out of our house downpayment fund. Several people have told us, 'oh, don't worry, you get it back in gifts,' but I can't think that way. I wish the whole thing was booked already!

My fh had his xmass party for four years if not more there. We always liked it. They changed it to CLM this year. Its a nice place with a amazing staff. The food was good too. If you are having a night wedding you will not see a thing from outside the windows though. Its PITCH black but the nice thing is deer run around free on the grounds.

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

you should do a search cause i know a few weeks ago the same thing was asked and many different opions were given. I was there for a wedding a few months ago and sorry but i thought it was the worst wedding i have ever been to. I dont know how many people you are having but the CH was packed i felt like i was in a club it was ridiculous....ill list a few other things i didnt like
1. not enough seats for people to sit during ch hour
2. food was NOT replaced when it ran out at CH
3. staff was very unfriendly and rude
4. food was horrible...my whole table had to send their meat back because it was so rare
5. asked for tea they looked at me like i had 3 heads
6. service sucked....they are suposed to bring drinks to ur table we all had 3 rounds before the server brought our drinks
7. we were seated at a back table and could not see anything on the dance floor since its in the corner

these are just a few things maybe it was cause of the number of guest but i just wanted to give my honest opion and things you can look out for when u go and see it. the grounds are beautiful and would be nice it was a SMALL wedding

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

I went for a tour on Thursday there and I did not like it. It was decorated pretty but the set up was weird. Basically there is no foyer and you walk right into the RH and in order to get to the CH you have to walk through the RH. The CH room was VERY SMALL. The Bride and Groom are smashed in between all the tables and are in the back. The dance floor was off center and was not surrounded by tables. To me it was an odd set up. It may be nice for a engagement party, but for me it just did not do it for me. For the size wedding I am having it seems a little to small although the inside is decorated nicely.

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

Thanks, I'll do the search. I did a quick one but didn't see that thread. Our wedding will be small--85 people. That does sort of sound as if the wedding was overbooked, if you know what I mean. Too many people, the staff was overworked, there wasn't quite enough food--that's the management's fault, however. They should know what steps they need to take for each size wedding. But, it's very possible that we wouldn't have that issue, it being such a small wedding. I was looking at the room at the 3VI and thinking we'd swim in there, but it would be nice to do that. Same thing at Timber Point. Roomy!

And in reply to the poster below that: we've been considering Tall Grass, it's just kinda far. We live in Western Suffolk, but many of the guests will be coming from Nassau, NYC, and New Jersey. It seems harsh to ask them to drive another thirty miles early on a Sunday, and I know Shoreham isn't right off the Expressway, either. It's a drive. It's an issue.

If anyone else has a suggestion for a reasonably priced venue to hold a Sunday afternoon wedding for no more than 85 adults, let me know! We liked the 3VI and Timber Point because they don't have that 'catering hall' look. It's not our style. We thought about restaurants, but we want to have dancing, and most restaurants don't have a dance floor.

I think we are in the exact same boat - my FH and I are looking at Timber Point this coming weekend also. He is also in 'sticker shock' over the price of the reception. We only just started looking at places this past weekend. We're also in the process of trying to buy a house and the idea of laying out all this money in the hopes of 'making it back' is a bit scary.

It's your wedding. Those guests that you invite that want to share in your joy and happiness will be there - even if the wedding was on the moon, so don't worry about distance. Instead worry about ambiance and what kind of feel you and your FH want for your wedding. The Country Gardens at East Wind doesn't have that catering hall look, nor does Stewart Manor Country Club, or the Old Field Club. Those three will also be happy to do a wedding with the number of guests your looking at, with a reasonable (IMHO) price tag attached.

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

I think Tall Grass would be great for the amount of people you are having! Timber point is not much more modern than TVI...its an old mansion!

TVI has a much more cozy feel, IMO.

Tall Grass was gorgeous- and the price is AWESOME!!! Even for a Saturday night wedding, we were quoted $67 p/p with things thrown in. The banquet manager is sooo nice! The reasons I didn't book there are because I thought it was a bit too small for my guest list and its a little far (I too live in Western Suffolk) It was more the size than the distance though.

You should definitely check it out!

Look at kittythestray's review too...her wedding was gorgeous!

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

Tall Grass is about the same distance as East Wind. Old Field Club was AMAZING. I loved it, but they give you less food for more $$$. The food is supposedly AMAZING though! My FH and parents wouldn't even let me consider it so I never went to a tasting. They are alot more $$$ than Timber Point and Tall Grass though.

I never checked Stewart Manor CC but I wanted to...

Anyway, Good Luck!

One more...did you check out the Riviera in Massapequa?

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

I have hear nothing but great reviews of the Riviera (but you have to be into a rustic feel).

i would recommend where I am having my wedding at Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst. We picked it because we loved the tasting , loved the view, loved the decor and its really great for out of towners. You just go south on welwood ave till it ends on the water. YOU CAN'T MISS IT!!! Hahah so its great. Nick and Lou are the greatest just book sunday with them.

I looked there as well and was not crazy about it. If you looked closely it was very run down in places. We ended up at Smithtown Landing, with about the same prices. They are WONDERFUL and have been so accomidating so far.

We had our wedding there two months ago and absolutely loved it. Of course, it all depends on your personal taste. For example, I really loved that the dance floor was off to the side, since I'm not that into dancing and I didn't want the focus of the whole reception to be about dancing or watching people dance. I also really liked that it felt intimate, more like having a wedding in a home than having it in a fancy reception hall. It's also great for a small wedding - we had around 120 people, and there was lots of room to move around the tables and on the dance floor. Also, if your wedding is in nice weather, there's more than enough room to have the cocktail hour on the outside patio. If you have to have it inside, their CH room is pretty small.

I thought the staff was amazing, but then, we had a buffet, so people weren't dealing much with people serving at their table.

If you want more info, feel free to FM me or read my wedding review.

I Loved it too, it was the first place i looked at and we booked the next day (we loved the old mansion feel and our wedding will be about 125 people too )
i went there last weekend to make sure i counted the tables that i wanted to keep in (and remove others that were in out of the way spots)... also so i could accurately do the seating chart.. id say 12-13 tables are the max size (if you take out the few between the dance floor and the windows to put the dj there which is what we are doing)...
its great for your size wedding... they do have amazing prices too ....
you really do have to see it for yoruself.. i like the old school charming feeling you get when you walk in there....def. a personal preference...

Re: Timber Point in Great River?

My brother got married there and we had a great time and really enjoyed the food. The dance floor to the side didn't phase me either way. We almost booked there as well, but I couldn't get past my brother having his wedding there.
