I was wondering how much time everyone is having between the ceremony and their reception. my ceremony is starting at 3:30 pm and my reception hall wont let us start the wedding until 7pm. is that too long in between?
thanks!

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
My church is at 2pm and my cocktail hour starts at 7pm. I think it's better to have some time in between especially if you plan on doing pics.

I think it is fine. My mass is at 2:30 and cocktail does not start until 7. We wanted to be sure we have time for pictures!

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
My ceremony was also at 3:30 pm with cocktail hour starting at 7:00 pm.
Beforehand I too thought it might be too long in between but on that day the time FLEW and you know what, I actually kinda wish I'd had MORE time in between to travel to the RH & get the pics done without rushing. Between starting the ceremony a few mins late, then once it was over everyone wants to say hello & talk to you, and then travel time to get to the RH, the time went sooo fast.
So to answer you I definitely don't think it's too long in between.

We're back-to-back. The locations are right next to eachother.

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
Etiquette says you aren't supposed to have more then 2 hours between ceremony and reception since it's rude to leave your guests with nothing to do. I totally agree b/c I hate going to weddings like that. My wedding is at 3 and cocktail at 6 but my wedding is a greek ceremony and will go till 4.

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
I feel like my timing might be too short.
Ceremony at 4pm and cocktail hour starts at 6pm.
So you ladies think i should move up the ceremony time?

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
I think it's a good time gap. It all depends on the location you will take pictures at. Is it close to the reception hall? You also have to give yourself enough time for traffic!!
Good Luck, Christine

The ceremony is at The Community Church of East Williston which is like a 5 min. drive from Jericho terrace. I know my ceremony is only going to be about 30-45 min. Then we'll do recieving line and some pics at the church, then some pics at Jericho Terrace. Since it's winter we're assuming most of all our pics will be indoors and we're not going anywhere else for pics.\
Hopefully it is enough time.

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
i've always heard the 2 hour rule, but i don't think it matters too much. the only thing that will happen is you might lose some guests at the ceremony. people who don't live close-by or are traveling from far away may not go to the ceremony if they have nothing to do in between the ceremony and the reception. do what you want, it's your wedding! haha.

well the etiquette books should talk to the catholic church then bc you cant have ceremonies past a certain time on saturday bc they have mass at 5pm and you need to be out of there with enough time for them to clean up and also for confession right before mass. People getting married at catholic churches on a sat, you will see all have around the same time. Bc of this just about every wedding ive been to is like this and i know why there is a gap bc with a catholic church you have no choice. If we want evening weddings then its just the way it is.

Re: Time between ceremony and reception
My ceremony starts at 2:30 and the reception is at 7. I think we might bump the reception up to 6:30 but that's because I think my RH has a beautiful view and I want people to be able to see it before the sun sets!
