time between church and reception
My church ceremony will begin at 3 and the cocktail hour at 7. I am a little nervous about this time delay. Is this pretty typical? Can anyone relate their experiences with this? Thank you

My wedding schedule is the same as you. I am having a full mass with a receiving line. I should be done by 4:30-4:45. I know its a big gap, but I really don't have any out of town guests to worry about. I have been to plenty of weddings where there is a gap and I just went home and changed before going to the Reception. Sometimes we worry about things cause we want to make everyone happy. My church has a hall downstairs and what I am considering (if the church will allow it) is just getting some cake, cookies and a Dunkin Donuts Box of Joe and leaving it down there for anyone who might have some down time.
My church is at 3:30PM (ceremony not a full mass)and my cocktail hour starts at 7PM. My church and hall are only 9 miles apart. I spaced it out this far on purpose because I wanted enough time to take formal pictures at nearby Old Westbury Gardens. I think most local guests will use this time to get ready for the reception and for the others my mom and my FI's dad will be hosting guests at FI's house for drinks and hour'd'vours.
our ceremony is at 1:30 - cocktails at 6. 90% of our guest are local, so i'm assuming people will come to the church casually dressed and then go home in between and change, relax, nap, etc.
