Time on invites, to tell the truth or not....

Original post by nrvbrd

Hey Ladies, are you lying about the start time on your wedding?

I am having my ceremony and reception at the same place.

My ceremony starts at 630pm to immediately be followed by the cocktail hour at 7pm.

I am thinking of putting 6:00pm on the invites.

My goal is to really get people there by at least 6:45pm . I do not care if a large amount of people miss the ceremony but I do not want people to miss the cocktail hour that I am paying $$$$ for.

What are your thoughts???

My contract from the reception hall states that the invitations must match the start time on the contract. I'm too chicken to go against it, so we are getting married at 6:30 and that's what the invite says. If people are late, then so be it. I can't worry about a few rude people.

Wow, I have to say I never even thought about that - my invites are already done, but I would have put some thought into it if I had read this earlier, I would want people to be on time so there are not alot of people walking in and looking for a seat when we are saying our vows and that sort of thing.

Invite says 12, ceremony really starts at 12:30 but they'll have coffee and danish stuff for those that get there early.

I'm being honest as well.. I know that most the people are going to be there on time, if not before..

I lied I put 1/2 earlier. CB will serve coffee and danish for people who arrive early.

My ceremony starts at 11:30 and my invites will be for 11:00. The hall has a 1/2 hour hospitatlity and they serve coffee, tea, and danishes.

I am putting 5PM on invite, but ceremony will actually start at 5:15. We are having our ceremony at the reception hall & all this info is written into our contract & we are going to have a champagne welcome, so our guests shouldn't mind the few minute wait. Plus, I don't want to have a lot of people getting there after the ceremony has begun.

I told the truth too. I felt the people who really care and want to be on time, will be there.

I will be lieing about everything. I know the trend with my side of the guests. And FH's are even WORSE!! Its horrible!! I swear if I could put an HOUR ahead I would. People just don't understand the concept of TIME!!

I am lying about the time, I put 6:00 in the invites, and my ceremony starts at 6:30 ... I want to make sure that everybody is there!

We were married at a church, it started at 11:00 but I put 10:30 on the invites, because I knew there was a common trend among our guests to be late!....We did tell some of the punctual people the real time!....Everything worked out and no one even realized the lie.

I didnt even think of this when I did mine

But ya know what? If my guests cant get to the church on time to see me get married, then oh well. Their loss, not mine!

I kind of want the invite to say the right time but then again, I think I will just have it say 15 mins. earlier to ensure people get there on time.

I'm putting 15 min earlier. We really want to make our cocktail hour and there isn't much time inbetween the church and the hall for pics - so we're starting right on time - hopefully everyone is there!

Several vendors told me that if my ceremony begins at 11:30, I should write 11:00 on the invite. I'll call my hall to see that they do with the early guests. I may just put 11:15.

I was at my hall last night and my BM told me I should put down the time that the ceremony starts. Meanwhile, last time he told me 1/2 hour before. He said it really is not nice to make people wait an extra 1/2 hour just b/c I am trying to accomadate the people that are always late. I still think I am going with a 7 invite time for a 7:30 ceremony.

If you are going to lie I would make sure that those who arrive 'on time' are given refreshments and greeted by a family member or host/hostess. And remember there will always be those who are early to the time you put on your invites.

I would really think of the effect this might have on elderly relatives. In my family my grandparents generation arrives early to everything, and it would be rude, I think, to have them wait 45 minutes for something they thought would begin in 15.
