I personally think this is incredibly ridiculous! There shouldn't be a 'rush fee' if you're getting your dress 6 mo in advance! 6 months is NOT a rush in normal life, it's actually a VERY long period of time! Ridiculous!

I was told to order my dress by 8 months before the wedding.

There's a lot of work that goes into wedding gowns .... and sometimes that work is even done overseas, so they have to account for shipping transit times.

And you want there to be ample time for alterations once the dress comes in ....

IMHO, it isn't that ridiculous ...

Good for you. I'm glad that you found your dress so far in advance and think that 8 months is an appropriate time.

I hope you realize that it doesn't take months to ship a dress from overseas to the US, it takes a week.

And give a thought to this 'rush fee' i'm talking about - what do you think this extra 1K does? Nothing! It just gets pocketed by the seamstress making your dress. This is just a way for the wedding industry to make extra money.

Just because someone told you that you should order your dress 8 months in advance doesn't make it right. Just like giving a salon $65 for them to ship your dress to you is ridiculous when you can pick it up from the salon yourself. IMHO, It's important to question things that don't make sense.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I believe the wedding industry plays on our emotions to get a lot of money out of us that much quicker.

It makes no sense why a dress would take that long to arrive. I really thinkg your dress arrives in accordance to your wedding date. I wouldn't be surprised if brides that order the same dress at a later date but get married sooner still get the dress earlier than the bride that placed the order first. Those are just my thoughts.

I know people hate David's bridal, but my dress came in 3 weeks after I ordered it, even though they told me 12 weeks.

If your in a time crunch, at least consider them. But go on a Monday night or something, not a weekend.

Yeah I hear ya..I have to find the BM's dresses still..I have a few choices...but everyone's like come on you have to pick and order them already..i just wanna make sure I'm picking the right one...geeze..lol..

when I tried on my dress, the owner of the bridal salon told me that I had to pay $65 in shipping fees for when they ship the dress to me from their store. I told them that was OK.....I'll just pick it up when it's in (I live about 30 min away). She said, 'No, you can't do that. If you want, you can come back and be sure it is a perfect fit, then we will ship it to you after you leave the store'.

Ummmmmm, that makes NO sense at all!!!! Just another way to make a buck in the bridal business!!

Sorry, nothing to do with time......but it was just a vent ........

But I agree about the whole TIME thing....it's just ridiculous!

OMG that's ridiculous! Are they shipping it to you? I'd insists on picking it up to get it faster and to make sure nothing happens to it during shipping! It's not even about the 65, although that's incredibly dumb! Wow. Think outside the box stupid bridal salon people!!!!
