I am trying to figure out a time line here and was wondering if you can help me out w/ all your experience...
I am on WW and I am trying to lose 50lbs before I start to seriously dress shop. I know if I go now I will hate the way they look on me and it will be a waste of time.
My question is, if I go shopping in February, do you think 7 months is enough time to order a dress for my wedding in October???
TIA.......

Re: Timeline for ordering dress??
That MIGHT be OK, some designers take longer to make the dress than others...But I am sure any store will make sure they get it in time, they want the business.

I agree depending on the designer, some come in with in a few months, others can take close to a year. I would check with the bridal boutique when inquiring.

Re: Timeline for ordering dress??
not that u should rely on this - but the dress i ordered was estimated to take 6-9 months via kleinfeld. i instead ordered it from phyllis at gownfind (saved tons of money) and she estimates it will take about 3-4 months. i'll have to wait and see if this is the case, but seems like other brides have also mentioned that it takes less time with phyllis for some reason. i have no idea why though.

Honestly it depends on the designer. You may be asked to put it in as a rush order.

Re: Timeline for ordering dress??
i think you should have enough time...as long as you're not looking into a couture gown or something very intricate
but you can try a few dresses on just for the heck of it! i'm plus sized myself, and thought the same thing...'i'll never find anything at my current weight that i think looks good on me.' and low and behold--i did!
good luck!

it started out as a website (www.gownfind.com), and it still is a website, but now the owner has a location in dix hills as well. you can either go to her store and look at the dresses she has - regular designer dresses. or you can go elsewhere to try on dresses and if you find one you love, you can call her and see if she can get it for you for a cheaper price. she can't get everything, but it's always worth a shot.
i did the latter - i found my dress at kleinfeld's and then called her to see if she could get it and she was able to do so. saved me about 50%!!!! no kidding. it was just ordered about 2 weeks ago, so i haven't received it yet, but the price was great.
other liw brides have used her - sometimes goes by phyllis at gownfind. most have great experiences, some not so great. but it's a good way to save some $$$.

Re: Timeline for ordering dress??
That should be plenty of time to order a dress.
50 pounds is a lot of weight to lose. Try to be healthy about it.

Re: Timeline for ordering dress??
I ordered mine around May 6th. It came in about two weeks ago for a wedding on 10/14. I did not put a rush order on it and I ordered it hollow to hem. I am putting off my fittings until the last moment, I want to lose about 15 pounds before that date.

Febuary should be fine for ordering your dress. If I remember correctly I ordered mine at the end of January.
