times between church and reception!

So i have my ceremony at a church in patchogue thats starting at 4, and my reception is at east wind which originally when i went for my appt. to look at the place they wrote down my reception for 6:30, but when i went to finalize everything they put it for 7:30. I am unable to switch my ceremony time so i tried calling east wind to switch my reception back to 6:30 but they can only switch it to start at 7. so my question is how long is too long between ceremony and reception. Mine is prob going to be like between 1- 1.5 hours in between. I feel like thats too long? or am i just going crazy over every little detail? haha. TIA!

I think this is a fair amount of time considering the following:

From patchogue to east wind is still a decent drive. You're getting married on a Saturday (if your wedding date on here is correct) and traffic on LI is always slamming on Saturdays. Especially since thats wine tour season :) If I were you I'd keep it at 7. Figure your church is 4-5... you leave by the time you're done with the receiving line and people get to their cars you're looking at 530... they may want to stop on their way for a cup of coffee... thats plenty of time!

I say leave it for 7pm!

My church is at 4 and my cocktail is at 7. Most live locally, those that live far are staying on a hotel and the rest will have to fend for themselves as I have had to in the past.

That's not bad at all...
My ceremony was at 1PM and my cocktail hour was at 6:30PM and not a single person complained about the 3.5 hour gap!

Our ceremony is a full mass starting at 3. Cocktail hour starts at 7. Min to worried about it. I wanted a bit of a gap for photos so I don't miss cocktail hour. I'm not worried about my guests. They will figure it out.

Re: times between church and reception!

Don't worry too much about the time in between. The guests will figure out something to do. I have done it many times (a big gap) and survived!

My wedding Mass is at 2pm and our cocktail hour begins at 7! I did this so that we could have time in between for pictures. Late October gets dark early. I worried too about the time gap but at the end of the day, have to remind myself I can't worry about those things.

that's so reassuring! I will have what I think is a big gap, about 4 hours and my ceremony to RH is about 40 minutes!

Seriously don't stress the gap at all! Our photographer was SO happy we had that time, and it flew by so so so fast. We were able to get every single picture we wanted, and still had time to relax and have fun with the bridal party. We would take breaks every so often and go up to the bridal suite and hang out, eat, have a drink, then go back and take more. We got to our venue at 3:15PM and took pictures until 7PM - it felt like 10 minutes.

Girls - don't stress every little detail! Do what's best for you and your hubby because at the end of the day - it's YOUR day! Our parents were worried about the gap in the beginning too thinking people wouldn't come - we had over 100 people show up to the church, and only one couple missed the reception out of 300 people.

times between church and reception! - Long Island Weddings

My ceremony is at 2 and cocktail at 7. It's a lot of time but I figure between the receiving line and time for pictures, we'll need it. I put on our wedding website things to do for people not from the area. The ceremony is in Rocky Point and the reception is at the Bellport Country Club. He's from the north shore and I'm from the south shore so I made it a contest and told people to pick a shore to explore in the time between and let us settle our argument over which shore is better :)

Yeah 1.5 hours is barely a gap! I wouldn't worry at all. It seems like perfect timing! :)

times between church and reception! - Long Island Weddings

Our ceremony in Smithtown is at 2:30PM and our cocktail hour begins at 6:30PM out on the Northfork in Aquebogue. Initially I was a bit worried about the gap/driving distance but there's usually quite a bit of traffic that time of year and people can always have a drink or two at the hotel to kill time! ;) Everyone coming to the wedding is an adult, so I assume (or hope..lol) that they will be able to figure it out!
