Timeshares

Anyone own one? I have heard mixed reviews on them....
Are you really saving money if you only go away 2 weeks a year?

Hi Jodi,
We actually have a Disney timeshare which has properties around the world we can use (not just Disney) and it is a little different in that you buy points so you are not limited to 2 weeks. You buy as many points as you want and then depending on when and where you want to go, the various places cost a certain number of points per night.

We own a timeshare in Grand Cayman. It is part of RCI where you get discounts on vacations even if you arent using your weeks. I think its a good value. JMO

I was actually thinking of the disney timeshares since we take my son there alot..but I would also like to use them for the carribean as well..

We have disney also. We are basically prepaying our vacations for the 30 or 40 years.

So after we are finished paying our 'mortgage' there are nominal maintenance type fees that we would continue to pay. (BTW, the mortgage interest and the real estate tax in the maintenance are tax deductible!) They say that the number of points you purchase does not lose value.

That means that if you need 100 points to stay at the beach club for a week in October now, you will still need the same 100 points 20 years from now.

They have vacation planning personnel and you get discounts on park passes.

We are using our points to go to Arizona in Sept. But they have tons of resorts all over the place.

We think it's a pretty good value. We were there this past weekend and only had to pay airfare and food (we didnt go to the parks this time)
