when i was a banquet manager it was always nice, bc there is a lot of hard work that they do that you dont even realize.
even a $50 visa gift card was amazing

some places put it in the contract, others make it as a suggestion but require a $3-5 pp tip to MD

the 18% is a service charge. that pretty much goes towards the salaried staff, and back of the house and how the wait staff gets paid.
The Tip is an extra that you give to the MD, etc who splits it amongst the waitstaff.
keep in mind most of these guys only get a shift pay of about $75 for the night so they work off of whatever tips they get from the bride and groom

We ended up giving our Banquet Manager $300 at the end of the night. At first I wasn't sure what the protocol was and we weren't going to, but he was so amazing during the whole process. We gave the MD $600, the BA $100 (she ****** actually), and tipped the bathroom and valet attendants separately also. Our BM was the one who really did all the work for the year leading up to the wedding, and he threw in so many extras at the end, so we figured he deserved it!

I didn't tip our Banquet Manager because during the process we have 4 We did tip our MD, BA and all out waitstaff they were great

the BM doesn't get tipped (unless you REALLY want to)...the maitre'd gets 3-5 pp...the bridal attendant gets what you want to give them (usually 75-200).
