my fiance and I went for our wedding bands yesterday. We went into the city- my dads friend is a jeweler on 5th ave and we went to him. I made sure I cleaned my ring with windex/jewelry cleaner like many people had suggested. It sparkled and I was happy. When I started trying on bands my ring looked so dirty... like a film was over it. He asked me what I clean my ring with and I told him Windex or jewelry cleaner. He showed me with his eye piece how the blue from the cleaner gets into the ring and diamond. My diamond looked so dirty compared to the ones I was trying on. I know they are brand new and sparkly but it was bad. He even said so. He told me to soak my ring in regular rubbing alcohol and then use a toothbrush to clean it. He then cleaned my ring and it was back to sparkles.
SO ladies just a suggestion..
Oh and we got our wedding bands!!!!Yeah!

Re: tip on cleaning your ring...
My sister gave me a good tip on cleaning my ring, to soak it in spic and span.. It always comes out sparkly.. But I guess the same as the Windex would be true. If you look at it compared to all the other rings, it would probably have an orange glow

I always use a toothbrush but be careful if you have small stones on your ring, a toothbrush could be very abrasive so don't clean it over a sink.

Re: tip on cleaning your ring...
In regards to the above post, i dont think jewelry cleaner is bad, I just dont think it actually cleans your diamond that well. thats what happened to me. It builds up a film and although you think it looks clean, compare it to diamonds that are clean, its dull and dirty. use whatever works for you. I just wanted to share the tip from a family jeweler who knows...
