Tip the Vendor if they own the business?

I see sometimes on here girls mention they don't tip the vendor if they own their business.

May I ask why not?

It's etiquette not to tip the owner of a business. The thought process is that they are receiving all of the funds from the fee they're charging you whereas someone who works for a company is receiving only a portion of that fee so you tip to give them something extra.

ETA: I just found this on theknot.com:

Here is a simple rule of the thumb: you tip employees, not owners.

I agree....it is their business and whatever profit they receive beyond the cost of what they are doing (IE: cost of film, travel, etc.) is in their pockets. I'm sure you could do it, but it's absolutely ok not to. This was big for us because we were on a tight budget.

You can also 'tip' afterwards..my best friend did this with bottles of wine and token gifts for her vendors. Also, our maitre'd told us that sending Thank You's or a letter to your vendors does wonders.

Good to know.
That explains all the Thank You’s I saw at the florist!!! LOL
I just feel strange NOT tipping people. heh

Most of my vendors are the owners and I am going to tip them anyway. I do not feel right not tipping them.
