Tipping???

My best friend is getting married on Sunday and I am the MOH. Just wondering what typical tips are for:

Photographer and assistant?
Videographer and assistant?
Band?
Florist?
Hair & Makeup?

TIA!!

I heard depends on how you felt they did. But 15-20 % sounds good if they did well.

15-20% of the whole package???? That sounds like an awful lot of money when you are talking thousands. anyone else out there feel the same way???

Yea, I kinda have to agree!! Especially when the photographer is also the owner of the business, so technically they are also making all of the money that you are paying them!!

15-20% is completely wrong and out of control!!!....think of who sent you that letter!!

I did searches on here for tip threads (liweddings has an article on tipping which is also very helpful) and this is what we did:

Photographer/ assistant- $50 each
Videographer- $50
DJ/MC- $50 each
Maitre D'- $300 (usually $3-$5pp)
Makeup/Hair-I paid them in cash and gave them a $50 tip each.
Bridal Attendant-$100

Also when a vendor owns their own business, you do not need to feel that you have to tip them...although some people do. It's a personal choice.

HTH...but do NOT pay them 15-20% whatever you do...That's outrageous to me

exactly why I am asking...I think 15-20% is to much. Who has an extra $700 for a tip.
I was thinking of doing $100- each for video/photo.

What do you think?

Whatever you are comfortable with is fine. It's also how they are and the services they provide on your day...we wanted to actually give our MC a little more than $50 because he was so awesome but things were so crazy after the wedding with all the goodbyes and everything that we didn't have a chance to put extra $$ in his envelope :(
I am going to write a really nice thank you card though!! As far as $100 IMHO I think it's a lot because you are already paying them thousands of dollars...and they sent you that letter suggesting a huge tip which would make me mad...JMHO sorry

So if we're tipping our vendors that are actually AT the reception, ie: photog, video, dj... do we have to pay for a plate for them on top of that?? or is it either / or?
If it is tip & food, I would think $50 tip, plus food is ample..
What does everyone think?

Re: Tipping???

Were those tips for each vendor total or was did you give it to each person such as any assistants, etc. For example, my photographer will have 2 assistants-- should I tip each of them $150?
