havent really thought much about this yet. there's some really great post if u search 'tips'. but here's my list of ppl that will need tipping 1) hair 2) makeup 3) limo 4) priest 4) alter boys 5) dj + mc 6) photog + assistant 7) video 8) maitre d 7) bridal attendant
They gave me a good idea about what I need to do, but I'm still not 100% who I'm tipping or how much. I think the rule of thumb is that if they OWN the company, you don't tip. So if my photographer owns the company and comes with an assistant, do I tip the assistant and not the photographer? hmmm..

I think that even if they own the company you should tip. They still need to pay to up-keep their equipment, gas their car to get there, etc. They also need to split their money up among the other people that were at your event from their company. I'm not saying you have to go crazy with tipping them, but they definitely deserve a tip.

Re: Tipping
I've read some articles but I'm still on the fence about how much/whether I will tip everyone that is suggested. I work in the service industry when I'm not in school, so I understand the importance of tipping, but I've also worked private events before, and I know that everyone is already paid pretty well, from the bus boys to the DJ. So I'm torn with how much I'm willing to give them.

Re: Tipping
FH and I are discussing this now! I read something that it is customary to tip the band about 20$ pp and we are having a 10 peice band... FH said that would be an insult but what am I supposed to do??? give them each 100$?!?!?! Oy...

So from what I read it is saying that you dont tip bartenders or maitre'd etc. if they charged you the 20% service fee already. Am I correct?

I believe that's true for bartenders and waiters, but not for your maitre'd. I believe you are still supposed to the maitre'd, and I think it's a bigger tip. $200-300

Re: Tipping
What is a maitre'd. Don't know who this is will the first time I meet them be on the day of my wedding?? I know this might seem like a silly question but I've heard a lot of girls mention 'maitre'd' and I am 2 months away from my wedding and don't know who this person is.

Correct me if I'm wrong or forgot anything: The Maitre D is the person running your reception from beginning to end. I'd call your banquet manager and ask who it's going to be and if you need to set up a meeting with him/her. If your don't have a DOC, he's the guy who will set up your escort cards, card box, favors, etc. If you have DIY centerpieces, he'll be doing these also. He also oversees the waitstaff and just makes sure things are going smoothly.
