Tipping- confused

Tipping- confused

I know this question has been asked 100 times before, but I am still confused. For hair and make up, both of my people are coming to me, and work for themselves. For this, my understanding is that they do NOT get a tip correct? I am looking for clarification bc to me, it sounds like it should be opposite. If they come to you, why wouldnt you tip? It seems like everywhere I look it says to not tip if they come to you/own their own company. I just want to be sure I do the right thing. TIA!

Personally I would tip, how much I would tip depends on how much I love it. I feel that if someone (even if its their job) does their job and does it well they should be compensated for a job well done.
Thats like saying my mother who is the owner of her spa shouldnt be tipped when she does a facial....shes the only person in the spa that does them its a small spa, I would totally tip her (not just cause shes my mother). And her clients tip her.
Only my opinion. hope it helps.

I agree, if someone is providing you with fantastic service, whether they own the company or not.. it is still a very nice gesture to offer a gratuity to them.

I agree. I always practice the rule of thumb that if I am happy with the service, to tip to reflect that. That is why everything I have been hearing was confusing to me. I was having a hard time understanding the rationale. Thanks for the help!

Yes i definitely think you should tip for this. They say that if its the owner of the company then you don't have to tip although i would even in other situations. BUT these are freelance vendors, so not like they own a company and make profit off other employees so i think this is a bit different. The rule is for owners of the company and they don't work for a company.

VERY TRUE!!! my mom has owned a couple of salons and EVERY single client always tipped her.

I agree that it you love the service that they provide you tip them. i think that the reason that the rule of thumb says that you do not have to tip them is because they are independent and are making the total profit on their work.
