Anyone ever hear of a venue wanting you to pre-pay the maitre D tip???

No, we tipped ours at the end of the night. We even gave more money than we originally planned.

Nope. I would not tip before services were rendered. What if they were horrible? What if they were amazing?
If a place expected me to tip ahead of time I would tip the least and give them more the day of. JMO

Never heard of that....We will be bringing our envelopes with cash in them to the event and tipping at the end.

I didn't think this was normal. So I am not tipping before hand. She will get her money at the end of the night.
I am so upset that they asked me to do this. I just feel so crappy about it. Almost like, if I don't give it to her before hand she will spit in our food or something

Nope, and I would NOT do that.
The whole point of tipping is based on good service. So if the service has not been rendered why would you tip them?

Nope; I would never do that! You Tip as an appreciate for services given to you. What if you tip him/her a high amount and you're not satisfied w/the service? Most halls say between $3-$5. If you tip the $5 (or more) thinking that will ensure excellent service but then they don't live up to it...you've given more money than you really should have....

i agree...ive never heard of this before! it is a TIP after all, the point is to reward someone for doing an exceptional job and providing great service, not a mandatory upfront fee!

We tipped the Maitre D as soon as we got to the RH the day of, but it wasn't requested by the RH to be done that way.

I agree with everyone else, no way! Wait until the day to make a decision on what your going to be tipping. What if the person left the company before your wedding or something, then you have to come up with another tip!

Nope. Never heard of that. The only realistic reason is that in the past they've seen that the end of the night gets hectic with the bride and groom saying g'bye to everyone that vendors tend to be forgotten.
Even if they asked though I wouldn't do it.

FH tells me that the word TIPS comes from To Insure Prompt Service... and back in the day, people would tip before hand to make sure they got good service...
However in this day and age, that is unheard of - especially when a tip represents satisfaction in a job well done....I definitaly wouldn't tip until the night of the event at the end of the eveing...

I would wait. If they press you to do it before, just politely say you would feel more comfortable at the end and ask them why that wouldn't be alright.
