How much will you tip your maitre d per person? Westbury Manor suggested 1000 for 174 people. Thats over $5 per person. Is that right?

I've heard you should tip $3-$5 a person...so if it is over that yeah I think that's a little high.

Well I can tell you right now they're not getting that from me! I don't get it - doesnt' the maitre d only help the bride and groom? Why does it matter how many guests you have?

My tip was 750 for 250 people. I definately think that price is too high. Did you already sign the contract?

YES!!! $3-$5 per person and thats like $6 per person!! I'm only doing $3 per person most likely but if you can do more than go for it!

I agree with you, the maitre D is only for the Bride and Groom, so it does not matter how many guests you have. You guys must be getting some extra extra special attention.

my hall said 3-4 per person, but i gave 4 per person because the staff did a terrific job. i think $1000 for 174 people is too much. jmo

oh, another note, this also includes tip for the wait staff. all the money went to the maitre d and then he split up the money among all the waiters, his assistant, and himself.

The tip is not just for him. he has to share it with his staff. The bigger the party the bigger the staff.

No offense to them, but I'm probably going on the lower end... I know people that have been wait staff for places like this and never saw a penny of the tip... sheisty ba$tards

Unfortunately, gratuity for the maitre'd is not included in the price for the venue. A good rule of thumb is $3-$5 per guest depending on good/bad your maitre'd was. $1,000 sounds like a lot for 174 people so I suggest setting an amount (let's say $3 per person) and have extra on hand the day of to add to the tip for excellent service.
