How much will you tip your maitre d per person? Westbury Manor suggested 1000 for 174 people. Thats over $5 per person. Is that right?

when i was younger i worked at a catering hall and I NEVER saw $1 from the maitr'd. the only tips i ever got were from delivering drinks to the groom's party suite....

Thats wayyyy tooo high. As far as my 18% grat. was told it goes to the wait staff, etc...

H*ll yes!!!!! The 'average' maitre d tip is between $3-$5 pp. We paid $4 pp. Of course the RH told you that...they want you to take care of their ppl
Just to clarify...the maitre d isn't for the bride and groom only...s/he makes sure the whole party runs smoothly the whole day including when things take place like when the cake gets cut, etc. Their tip isn't included in the gratuity.

I was told the gratuity was included in my 18% extra as well so there's no way I'm tipping just the matre'd that high. That's just crazy. 3 bucks a head is more than enough in my opinion, unless he goes way above and beyond somehow...

The tip is not just for him. he has to share it with his staff. The bigger the party the bigger the staff.

ask your rh bc seems they do different things. My maitre'd split half with our banquet manager, the waitstaff didnt get any of the tip we gave maitre'd.

That is very high!
When I went to my RH they told us what is suggested to tip but she also said it is not mandatory to tip that much at all.. I was thinking of doing $4 personally... That way I am right in the middle of the recommendation.. Obviously if they do a really really good job or a really really bad job ( that is not the case) I would alter accordingly.

WHAT??? ah i was told $500 for 160ppl. that is crazy to give 1k. i wouldnt even if they suggested it.

We went to visit a venue when we were first looking and they TOLD us how much to tip for the maitre'd - this was a huge no-no to me. They should not TELL someone how much they should TIP!!! Make a suggestion and let me determine what to give! What are they going to do if you don't give them the amount they WANT?!? Not let you leave?!?!
