Don't feel bad, it's over and done with. I think it is a tough call with the owners of the businesses because it FEELS like they should be tipped. But etiquette does state that they dont get tipped. In all fairness, I don't think the maitre'd has any control over the costs of the plates that you have to pay for to make your minimum. That's usually right in your contract.
For the maitre d, we gave $1 a head ($150). He was great, but we were 6 people short of the minimum, and he didn't budge, so we paid an extra $700 for people who were not even there!

Tipping Question
Tipping is complicated. I always try to go with how I feel, taking into consideration the guidelines. If I don't like the service supplied, I am not going to give the standard tip, just because it's standard. Tipping has been designed for a reason, and for me that reason is based on my appreciation of the effort put out.
At John Anthony's, we have a set range for tipping the Maitre'd, but we judge how high or low we want to go. Our dj is the owner of the business, as is the photographer, but if we love their work, they are certainly going to get something.
Everyone's opinion is different. I tend not to always be bound by etiquette. I think people need to do what feels right for them, within reason.
