I have heard that it is customary to tip the person that actually books your wedding at the reception hall. I also heard that a lot of people do not know to tip this person, so usually it doesn't happen. (Mind you, I am not talking about the Maitre D').
Then I read an article on LIW that mentioned tipping that person.
Are we supposed to tip the Banquet Manager, the one that books the wedding? Has anyone done this?

Re: Tipping the Banquet Manager?
This is from the article called 'Ok, so help me...who do I tip and how much?'
It says: 'Banquet Manager, Maitre D': This is where it's very important to check if you're already paying a service charge. If gratuity is not included in your bill total, figure from $200 to $300 as a tip, depending on the size of your wedding. This amount should go to the person in charge of your reception; if there's more than one person in charge, divide the gratuity among them'
But way before I had read this, a friend of my mother's, who works in a catering hall had mentioned that we should tip the Banquet Manager....

I guess, if you're supposed to tip between the two... and say its 300... i would give 200 to the MC, since hes the one who is going to keep the party going, and 100 to the BM... i don't even know if those figures make sense!

Yeah, I don't think the figures make sense either, and I wouldn't go by them, but I was just very curious on whether people would tip the Banquet Manager. I had never heard it before. The poll is showing an interesting split.
For those of you that did tip, what did you tip the BM?

Re: Tipping the Banquet Manager?
Whoops! I voted yes I will be tipping but I thought you were talking about the Maitre D'. In the case of the BM I will not tip that person. In my case it may be the same person anyway I believe the personed we booked with is our Maitre D'.

Re: Tipping the Banquet Manager?
You do not tip the BM. You tip the Maitre D', wait staff (if not already included in your gratuity). Sometimes you will also have captains, etc.
You need to check with you RH and see how much gratuity you are paying already and what it includes.

I know about the Maitre D' and the staff, that is already taken care of. I just questioned the Banquet Manager. Thanks.

If he/she is not also the maitre d', you do not tip him/her.

Re: Tipping the Banquet Manager?
In my personal opinion, the guy who booked my wedding was originally my maitre'd....but we moved to a larger room...and that change was handled by our new maitre'd...the old one said 'it's been a pleasure but 'GOMER PYLE' will be taking care of you now and he's going to handle the change as well.' he then introduced me to 'GOMER PYLE' and that was that. I don't see the need at all to tip him for an hour's worth of work over a year ago when 'Gomer' will be doing all the work the day of and the first guy might not even be there that day.
