Tipping the Mailman for the Holidays..
What is a proper 'gift' to give the postman ?$20 ? More ? I know it depends on how long youve known him and how much you like him !
Ours is really nice, and we've been here for 2 yrs. I cant remember how much we gave the past 2 Xmases.
How about a bottle of wine ? Would I stick it in the mailbox ? Thats kind of impersonal ! How about running out there when I seem him on Monday? LOL.
Any tips on this ? Thanks !

Re: Tipping the Mailman for the Holidays..
That's an awesome question. I'm actually wondering about the Newsday delivery guy. He delivers Sunday & Monday. Since we're on auto-pay, we never get a bill, but supposedly Newsday does give him something throughout the year. What do you guys think??

I was going to tape the envelope to the door
NO way I'm up when he delivers. Hopefully he'll see it and no one else will steal it!!

My mom gets a card for the mailman every year-believe it or not I think they do sell cards for that!!ya know one of those money envelopes--
i think she sticks like $10 in it-just as a token of appreciation--hey-if everyone on his route gives him 10 bucks he's in good shape!
i know a lot of people who tip their garbage men too!! where does it end?!! LOL

Re: Tipping the Mailman for the Holidays..
We mail our check to the Newsday carrier, and sent $10. We also tip $1 a week during the year.I've been trying to decide how to handle the garbage and recycling pick up. We have recycling on Wed. and Trash on Tues. and Friday. I'm not sure if it's the same crew! We've given them a lot of yard waste as we've been cleaning the yard of 18 years of neglect.
Mail delivery, not sure - he rides in a truck, not a walking route, and we have a PO box too, so very little mail comes to the house. Maybe a small gift - $5 or so.

Re: Tipping the Mailman for the Holidays..
We are going to tip our mailman (or woman - we don't know since we are never home when it comes!) $20. We will just put it in the mailbox so he/she can pick it up when they deliver on Tuesday. As for our Newsday delivery person, he is great. He comes so early to, like around 5 a.m. We are also on the credit card payment plan so we never get a bill. Just this week, we got a little postcard from our delvery person saying happy holidays - with his name and address just below!! I felt as if that was a neat way of telling us where to send the holiday tip. In any case, I will send him $20 as well. He's pretty good and our paper is never wet!!

My parents used to tip the landscapers and the sanitation workers too. We live in an apt bldg w/ 60 apts and don't even know who our mailcarrier is. Should we tip? We tipped our super $50, since he's done work for us that he is not required to.
