My contact person at the reception facility advised me that I need to TIP the Maitre'd $3-4 dollars per person at my affair. I'm expecting 156 people which would bring that tip in around the ballpark of $468-624, which I really think is a whole lot of money. I was orignally thinking of tipping around $300-350 depending on the service that day. Am I looking very CHEAP or would this be sufficient?

Re: TIPPING THE MAITRE'D
As you stated, they can only mention it but it is up to you how much to tip especially considering how well the Maitre'D does its job. I'd tip what is reasonable for your case and not necessarily go with what the hall suggested. Look at the service provided and tip accordingly.

Re: TIPPING THE MAITRE'D
I agree. That is the recommended tip, but of course they are going to try to make you give as much as possible. I plan on tipping between 250 and 350 depending on the service. (we are haiving 150 people) Im sure they matre d gets a percentage of the 18% gratuity they tack on as well...

This is exactly what I'm doing.

Re: TIPPING THE MAITRE'D
I was thinking $100 (it's a small wedding though), but it does depend on the service. Makes you wonder what happens to that 18% gratuity...

Re: TIPPING THE MAITRE'D
I was planning on giving $300. But I hate the idea of 'planning' what to tip. It should be based solely on the service received, not told ahead of time what to give.
