Tipping the priest and organist?

Tipping the priest and organist?

So I just called my church and asked them if the $300 I am paying to use the church is a donation or if the priest see's any of the money. The woman there informed me that the $300 is the church fee and agreed with me when I asked if it is a donation to the church.

I am paying the organist $115 and she gets to keep it free and clear for herself; the church does not see any of that money.

I think it is rude to tip a priest so I was thinking of giving him a bottle of Pindar wine as well as giving the organist a bottle of Pindar wine.

I am intersted in getting some of your opinions on this. Do you think I should tip them in money or is a bottle of wine good enough? I don't know them personally but these are the favors I am using for my wedding and we ordered way too many. I just thought maybe this would be easier and a nice gesture too.

TIA...

Mine is a donation to the church also and the organist is 150.00 and she gets to keep it all to herself also. With that being said.. I don't think you need to tip the organist. I personally wouldn't tip the priest either just because I don't feel it is right. They usually only take donations. So I think a bottle of wine would be a nice gesture although I don't think you would have to give anything. JMOT!!!

It is not rude to tip the priest. They would appreciate it. The church fee is never seen by the priest, it is more of overhead charges and rental fees. I bet he would appreciate the money.

Priests in a parish are usually given a salary but as you can imagine it is not very much. What some priests do is that they donate the moeny they receive either to the parish's Outreach Center, St. Vincent de Paul charity or a charity of their choosing.

Trust me they would be appreciative of receiving a thank you envelope. I don't know how appropriate the wine would be because they would probably end up giving it over to the rectory kitchen.

The organist does not need to be tipped. They get all of that money for themselves.
