Tipping - who and how much?

Tipping - who and how much?

I was just reading the official Milleridge thread which brought up a good question about tipping the banquet manager but there weren't many comments on it.

Who are you expected to tip and how much? I'm really bad at this, I honestly have no idea!!

What was suggested is the banquet manager, the bridal attendant (who is that; the lady in the bathroom??) and the Matrie'd.

I'm also assuming the person marrying you gets a tip but what about the ceremony venue (I'm at a mansion in Oyster Bay)? Then the limo drivers, the photographer, the DJ?

Please help, I'm lost with this stuff!

Am I out of line for asking how much? If so, I apologize. But if anyone could give advice on who gets tips (everyone?), I would be grateful.

i've heard that typically the maitre'd gets anywhere from $1-3/head. sometimes more....but you can also tip an amt you deem acceptable. the rest, i haven't a clue really, i just know this was a huge issue once for a bride who was confronted after the wedding by the reception site for not tipping enough....they tipped like 700 but it didn't come out to the anticipated like 3/head amt....yikes...she was offended, i was offended and it wasn't even my wedding!! most likely the best solution is to find out in advance as well if the tips are included in the bill/contract and for whom....like generally, the tip for servers is included, but not the maitre'd. great ?

700 is a lot of money to make in one night! I would be outraged if my hall came up to me asking me to give more than that!

i've heard $3-5 pp for the banquet manager, and 75-100 for the bridal attendent. and the bridal attendant is not a bathroom attendant, but a helper assigned to the bride to make sure you have everything you need, makes sure you eat, and to handle your requests, etc. my banquet manager told us when he worked at the watermill that they charged a standard tip of $500 for the banquet manager, but i don't know how true that is. mine will be prob be around $300---around $3pp. good luck! ~lacey

I was told $3-5 per person for the maitre'd or banquet manager (not sure of the title - the guy running the reception) and $1.50 - $2.50 per person for the bridal attendant (although I fail to see why she's on a per head basis since she's only helping me and some of the bp).

But yeah - tipping is out of control - especially considering they already tacked on an 18% gratuity on a rather large party bill...

And if a hall ever confronted me on a tipping issue - well let's just say they don't want to see that mess!

Yikes! I had no idea I was supposed to tip the maitre d' that much!!! I honestly don't see how he should be tipped $1000 for work he's already getting paid to do....That's INSANE!!!!!

Re: Tipping - who and how much?

we have to pay an executive gratuity of $3-6 per head to the maitr'd. we were told that covers the tips for the servers, bridal attendant, etc.....

Im giving my bridal attendant 100.00 and my maitre 'd $250.00 and I'm having 134 guests not including vendors. That's it. They got enough from me. lol

Then what is the '18%' for? Tips on top of tips!

That's what I say
I was so mad to find out that on top of my tax and 'service charge' (they changed it from tip to service charge), that I had to tip on top of it

What the f*@# is a service charge!!!

Thanks so much for the feedback, I had no idea!

Anyone specifically know about Milleridge? They charge an 18% gratuity and I know there is a Maitre'd but I don't think there is a seperate 'Bridal Attendant'.

I could ask in a few weeks when I go for our tasting. But I figure who would know best but the brides here? I love insider info.

Ask who? Not the people who will recieve the tips??! I'm not sure if that's what you mean, but if so, they might not be the right people to ask...
