FH & I figured it out that if we listened to all the recommendations for giving the 'ideal tip' to each vendor. We'd have to budget another $3,000 into our cost of the wedding. Which is insane (think I'm kidding - go add it up!).
Anyway we decided we want to put a 'CAP' on tipping. An amount of $ we will REFUSE to go over in tips.
So basically what is everyone budgeting for tipping.. what is the MOST you will pay.

Re: Tipping - with Poll
I don't really know the answer to this yet. It's super subjective and I think is going to depend on what kind of wedding you're having, what vendors you booked, how many vendors, etc... So I think you're gonna get some crazy variation of answers.
BUT, someone did just post on 2010 this week that LIW'ers tend to tip more... that the recommended tips on here are way higher than was other non LIW brides are tipping.

okay but let me ask you this...
you said depending on the vendor.
You booked with Thomas Paul for photo. I booked with North Island.
What would make the difference in what we tip based on the vendor? Like what is the criteria you would use?
Bc seriously this is causing some animosity between FH & I and I'm not sure what to tell him.

Re: Tipping - with Poll
I think it really depends - our RH recommended $3-5pp for the maitr'D and $100 for the BA. Our band said that they are 'all-inclusive' but we can tip them if we want. Same thing with photo (I think, but it is still recommended). Not sure what to do with the florist? Granted, I wont really be there when the flowers are delivered to the RH, only when the personals are delivered to my house, so not really sure how you handle tipping on that.

well yeah, If I took what the recommended tips from the RH + the recommended tips for DJ, MC, Photographer, 2nd Photographer, Photographer Assistant, VIdeo person, Video Assistant, Bridal Attendant, Flower delivery people, Hair, Makeup, Minister, etc.
Our total was approx $3,400.
Frankly, that just seemed crazy to me..
I want to put a $1500 cap on it, but that seemed cheap to me.

When I factored in how much we should tip (based on tipping suggestions) it comes out to about $1500.00.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of like...hair and makeup people or DOC...dpending on how much they do, what kind of time they spend on you and how high end they are..
But if you're asking about Photo specifically, I would say a) I'm not tipping TP cause he owns the company. If your photog is a freelance being sent out by North Island or a staff photog, I'd tip, but if you're getting the owner of the co, I wouldn't. I will tip the 2nd photog and the videog but I'm not sure how much yet. I do plan on basing it on how much we spent and what kind of job he does... but I tend to be the 'Cheapskate' (I just see it as being reasonable... nobody tips ME at work, so I base it on performance) and FH tends to be a lot more generous than I.
Now that I'm thinking about, it, if it were up to me alone i'd ballpark say I'm gonna give photog 2 $100 and the videog $150-$200...but I dunno what FH is thinking yet.

I put $1500 in the budget but I know it's not going to be anywhere near that - I just wanted to highball it just to be sure we had enough.

What are you thinking you'll pay per vendor?
you can FM me if you want, I'm just curious because I want to make 1500 my max but I'm not sure how to distribute it.

I think it will only be about 1500 dollars. But we aren't having a lot of people at our wedding.
