when i signed my contract, i knew about the 20% gratuity. to pay additional tips??? no way, unless the service really is exeptional. maybe i will prepare envelopes and decide at the end of the night if it is deserved. i know i sound cold, but this whole tipping thing is a rip off. the gratuity is the tip to me. period. im referring to the RH only though, other services i would consider tipping.

unfortunately the staff never gets the 20% as gratuity. Well I actually have 18% but yeah still either one you have

see I ask my BM specifically if they do and they told me yes .... if its not true the wait stuff should really complain cause it not right ... and they shouldnt lie to people if its not true ...

I think everyone should read your contracts. This topic was discussed once before and when I looked at my contract it was right there in black and white. Service Charge 20%... It's not a gratuity.

I know they want the bridal attendant and matred tipped extra which i am fine with that BUT I AM NOT tipping valet, coat check, bar tender (maybe give them a few bucks but not really TIPPING).

I have always tipped these people when I was a guest at a wedding so how many tips do you need???? guests tip those people not the people throwing the party. I disagree with that completely on that list.

For the dj, photo, limo, etc i plan to give them a tip.

the bartenders do make good money most of the time. I had guests at my e-party who got so drunk they just kept on tipping $20 instead of just a dollar or two. THe bartender was great though, the moment i walked into CLM she greeted me at the door and asked what FH and i want to drink while we get ready. Everyone raved about her how she gave them all the good stuff and didnt water anything down. So I gave her a $50 tip. The waitstaff i gave $20 to each. It actually wont be that bad, also depending on how many people you have there wont be that many waiters and or waitresses...but again its up to you, they do work hard and as most know the salary given to waiters and waitresses is very little.

And yes there are guests who will tip but then again there are many who wont, it all depends.

i am just being honestly bitter cause its ridiculos this whole tipping thing ... like i said before i am tipping but just not that much ... also my BM told me not to worry about tipping the wait staff ... cause that what the charge goes too ... casue i had specifcally asked him if that service charge goes for thier tip .. i dont know this is how i feel about this tipping thing

well its up to you, if you dont want to tip then you dont have to. When i asked Nick at the end of the night what to tip everyone, he said whatever I would like, but i asked him what the norm was and then he told me, he didnt tellme not to tip bc they already get money.

There are some vendors that actually shouldn't get tipped so people should think about that one.

These are basically added wedding expenses that many dont calculate in the wedding budget. If you dont want to tip then dont do something you dont want to do

Like i said if you dont want to tip then you dont have to. Catering staff gets paid what typical waiters and waitresses get paid. Its basically like being at a restaurant, they provide the same service and on top of that help set up beforehand and clean up after. Not everyone gets tipped for their job but then again many people do not get paid like $15-20 a day. Tips is what these people live off of. The 18% or 20% is divided among all the staff as part of their salary and also used towards services provided for you. But nobody is ever obligated to tip and you can't be forced to either

Re: TIPS

I do not really have a strong opinion on this topic...I dont believe I should have to tip bathroom attendants, valet, coatcheck people...and bartender (its a maybe) cause I know people will tip the bartenders and valet themselves- I mean I always do when I go to a wedding or big event that has it...

but my sister works at VYC NOW and my brother worked there when he was in HS and my FH worked there when he was in HS ...they all said they get paid a certain amount for each party they waiter/waitress for =MEANING- they get like a set 75$-$100 (depending how long they have worked there for) for a 4-5hour party- PLUS they also receive an additional wage per hour which is I think 5-6.50$ (not sure so dont qoute me haha)

SO...my sister said YES they do make pretty good money cause come on she has worked doubles which are about 7-10 hour nights but she is making not only 100$ but plus an additional 5-7$ an hour - SOME PEOPLE WHO WORK IN OFFICES DONT EVEN MAKE $130 a day!!!!! And my sister agrees she doesnt feel that she should be tipped- she will accept tips but never expects them...also she said this is the job she choose and yes she may only work 3 days a week (fri-sun) but she knows its what she applied for....

so thats my thoughts on this topic...people need to realize those waitresses and waiters do see a good amount of that service charge and more in their normal paychecks- and this is coming from my sister who works at VYC now as a waiter and soon to be an assistant chef- she is so excited she is interning this summer (she is a freshman in culinary college haha)

Re: TIPS

alot of them do make good money...But also remember alot are college students who only work on weekends. When FH was in college he did this too, yes lets say you make $100-150 a day , if you only are working on saturday or saturday and sunday, then that is all you make that week.

Again, I'll say youre not obligated to tip anybody, its completely up to you. I also do know that yes alot of the guests do tip also. Whenever we go somewhere FH will tip them from the beginning of the night and I know many people who do. For me its more about personally thanking them if they deserve it that is...But they help to set everything up, service at a wedding is very important soif they do a good job and help things to run smoothly on your wedding day then its just a little something to show your gratitude

Haha me too. I never even thought about having to tip all of these people. I thought it was all included in the ripoff 18% they already charged me
