As I am cleaning my house this came to mind. Maybe would could share some tips with the girls that are still living at home. For instance:
Spend good money on your area rugs. We bought cheapos from home depot and the ends are all frayed and get ****** up by the vaccuum and its very annoying...
thats all i have for now....

speaking of vacuum, i'd register for a decent one. you do not want it breaking on you after year and then having to spend the $$ on one b/c they can get expensive

i would appreciate a thread like this! could always learn something new!
one tip i can share is in terms of moving...if you hang a lot of clothes, keep them hanging!! they have 'wardrobe boxes' you can rent. goes from the hanger in one closet to the hanger in your new place. best invention ever!

This!!! They also have expandable bars....they hang over the ohsh!tbars in your back seat....this is how I moved across town!! Moved all my clothes from my closet onto the bar in the backseat and drove!

Re: Tips for brides to be living at home...
don't buy cheap paper towels or a cheap iron....these are the two things we use alot and its worth the investment on the iron.
get a costco card....the meat is so much cheaper there.
its ok to get ikea furniture, especially if you are moving into an apartment. we got ikea furniture for our first apartment, now that we are in a house, we are slowly buying newer and better quality stuff. but the stuff at ikea has held up well and looks nice.
put a lock on at least one door....this might sound strange but when you move in together and you have your first fight you will remember this....there is no where to go when you need a few minutes of sanity.
buy some cheap towels....fh constantly takes the towels to dry his car or something, so now we use cheap towels for stuff like that, bc a few times he used the nice ralph lauren ones.

Re: Tips for brides to be living at home...
please don't chintz out on dishes. i bought crap ones from Target, Walmart and even the Dollar Tree when I was desperate and i have spent more $$ trying to replace them than anything.
if you have cats or plan on it, DO NOT, i repeat: DO NOT invest in a good couch. they are going to tear the sh*t out of it along with the carpet

Re: Tips for brides to be living at home...
A few tips:
1- When you move into a new house it tends to save alot of aggrivation for a little cost when you hire a cleaning service for a one time scrub down of every surface of your new house. That means they clean up your new house and you don't have to and clean the toilets the last people used, While they are cleaning you can worry about packing. Remeber scrubing down an empty house/apartment/condo/whatever is much easier then trying to manuever around boxes and furnature.
2- Wait on any huge changes for at least a few weeks. I am talking something huge like knocking out a wall or totally reconstrusctiong something. Live in it first and make sure that the rip out is what you want. Your kitchen may be ugly as sin and you want it new, but using the ugly kitchen you may find out the layout is great, so even when changing everything the layout is goign to stay the same. Things like this you wont totally know until you live in it.
3-ALWAYS get an inspection even though its not techniqually legally required. Some people think to save money not to get an inspecitiuon, the couple hundred dollars will be much worth it when you find out an electrical/plumbing/ fire hazard problem an inspector could have spotted and now you are stuck paying to fix.
4-Ask the previous owner if they have the appliance guides or warenttees for the appliances. Even if the warentee for the appliance has expired see if you can call the company and they sometimes will extend the warentee even if there is a lapse. This can save you big bucks if you know an appliance is going the cost of the warertee will me much cheaper then the cost of repair ir replacement.
5- Make sure to leave out a small seperate carry all bag with a few outfits and your essentials such as meds and toiletries. Alot of times when doing the physical move you are to exaused to unpack everything and its good to not have to go throu 1090202 boxes.
Hope this helps someone! It was a really good thread idea.

oh.. dont have a lot of parties. a few times a yr is fine.
but i found msyelf having a bbq every week, halloween party, xmas, superbowl, bdays and just every weekend ppl coming over. i have spent thousands and thousands hosting to the point where ppl would just come over to eat and leave. some would come over to PREGAME and then leave. yea. im not a bar. dont drink my liquor and then bounce.
1 of the guys fh knew stashed 4 beers in his jeans 'for the road' uhm WHAT?? lolol
im not a soup kitchen... and i dont want any of you to make the mistake i made with that.
have parties... but dont have A LOT to where ppl are just grimmey.
1. If someone who lived ther first painted over wallpaper - leave it be - don't try to fill over the seams with spackle
2. Once you paint over spackle - its all over. so make sure you sand it down reeeallly good

We are in an apartment and its fully carpeted. We bought a carpet shampooer for about 200 bucks and it is the best investment. You should totally register for one if you are going to have carpets!!
