The company we are using (to refinish hardwood floors) is a family run business. Father, son, nephew. Theyre charging us $1.75 per sq/ft.
Do we tip in addition to this? I know theres a 'rule' that you dont need to tip if the work is being done by the owner. But what would you suggest tipping? (or not?) the total job is costing $1600. and three guys will be here.

We tipped our guys. Not a whole lot considering the cost we paid ($1.50/sq. ft., but we had the whole first floor done). I think we threw them each $20 to let them know we appreciate their good work.

same here, we tipped them very little. I think it was like 10-15 peserson. We had 2 guys.

We also tipped ours about 20 per person, just to show our appreciation. Anna - you are finally getting the floors done. Yay!

We tipped a lot because they are Patrick's friends. My feeling is that in tipping so high, we really didn't SAVE much by having friends do the job...
give a little bit...but also offer cold sodas and snacks for them...I think that says more

Im sure John will definately tip (he's big on tipping ANYONE ) youre right jenn, sometimes the tip is so much that you barely saved money. but then youd also feel bad not 'taking care of' friends, so I totally understand that one.
