Tips from us former brides to you future ones!

Original post by Mrs. dleeny

There was a past thread with tips for future brides. But there are many NEW former brides now and I hope everyone adds a lil something to this thread

My tips:

1. Buy slippers to change into. I bought $2 Chinese slippers for the reception and they were a GODsend!
2. re-apply your lipstick, A LOT! I saw this tip from former brides before my wedding and did re-apply quite often. But not often enough and it shows in the pics from the reception.
3. make sure you leave plenty of time for pictures! We spent 3 hours before our ceremony taking pics and I am SO glad that we did!! Our photographer took 400 pics in those 3 hours and they are my favorites from the wedding! Seeing my DH before also helped calm my nerves for the big walk down the aisle. I know this is a personal preference. So if you choose to not see each other before, make sure you get lots of pics after the ceremony of you and your new husband. You won’t be sorry.
4. spend time with your OOT guests. My family flew in from all over the country and I barely spent more than 5 minutes with them at the wedding. This is a big regret of mine. I know I won’t see many of them for a long long time.
5. TAKE IT ALL IN! I know you’ve heard this before. But that 4 hour reception goes by so fast that it seems like a matter of minutes! Take a step back and soak it all in. And don’t forget to PARTY!

But this friend told us the secret.

At least a couple of times during the day, especially during the reception, stop whatever you are doing and just look around - take it all in. During your reception, have your new spouse and you stop, hold each other's hand and just look around your reception hall - take it all in. Trust me it works. I've spoken to people who can't remember anything about their wedding day after a few months. It's been 11 years since we got married and I remember practically everything about that day. I even remember what the centerpieces on the tables looked like.

This advice was one of the best wedding gifts we received and I've shared it with soon-to-be-married couples ever since.

Just every once in a while ... stop what you're doing ... look around ... and take it all in.

I hope it works as well for you as it has for us

I too was given this piece of advice. The best advice ever! I told DH before and I'm so glad I did. I forgot about it but he's the one that kept reminding me. So, share! if it weren't for him, I would've forgotten.

My two cents, take it for what its worth :

1) Once the ceremony begins, and even before that, stop worrying. Little things are almost gauranteed to go wrong. If you are a in bad mood, everyone else will be too. If you are happy, it will rub off.

Really good point

Adding mine for what it's worth:

Give your ceremony the same attention that you give your reception, your dress, your DIY projects. The whole point of the day is that your begin your life with the person you love most in the world and that happens at your ceremony.

DH and I didn't have the ceremony that our parents always envisioned for us, but it was very much for us and really touched our families.

I have said this before, but LISTEN during your ceremony and cherish the words spoken. Through the planning, all we focused on really was the party, the reception. Well, as it turns out...the best part of our day, the part we love...was the church. It's an amazing time. Standing before your family and friends, vowing your love, pledging your lives for each other. Listen, reflect, and never forget the time....

What happens at a Buddhist ceremony?
Are you both Buddhist?

I like hearing about other religions, I find it interesting.
