Tips from us former brides to you future ones!

There was a past thread with tips for future brides. But there are many NEW former brides now and I hope everyone adds a lil something to this thread

My tips:

1. Buy slippers to change into. I bought $2 Chinese slippers for the reception and they were a GODsend!
2. re-apply your lipstick, A LOT! I saw this tip from former brides before my wedding and did re-apply quite often. But not often enough and it shows in the pics from the reception.
3. make sure you leave plenty of time for pictures! We spent 3 hours before our ceremony taking pics and I am SO glad that we did!! Our photographer took 400 pics in those 3 hours and they are my favorites from the wedding! Seeing my DH before also helped calm my nerves for the big walk down the aisle. I know this is a personal preference. So if you choose to not see each other before, make sure you get lots of pics after the ceremony of you and your new husband. You won’t be sorry.
4. spend time with your OOT guests. My family flew in from all over the country and I barely spent more than 5 minutes with them at the wedding. This is a big regret of mine. I know I won’t see many of them for a long long time.
5. TAKE IT ALL IN! I know you’ve heard this before. But that 4 hour reception goes by so fast that it seems like a matter of minutes! Take a step back and soak it all in. And don’t forget to PARTY!

here's another:

If you are on the dance floor so will your guests. Spending all of your time going table to table will but into your party time in a big way. It leaves lots of chances for an ambush.

Get on the dance floor, eat your dinner and don't forget to smile a lot. Your pics will be great!

Here's more:

Don't be afraid to have your photog take very candid shots of you. You do not have to be in perfect position for some great photo ops...

My two cents, take it for what its worth :

1) Once the ceremony begins, and even before that, stop worrying. Little things are almost gauranteed to go wrong. If you are a in bad mood, everyone else will be too. If you are happy, it will rub off.

2) Dance! We danced all night, and it definatly got others to dance also...

3) Bring a mini-perfume bottle or little spray perfume for you (you can leave it in the bridal suite).

4) Enjoy yourself. It sounds cliched, but it really does go by so quickly.

5) Get a videographer. We love our video, and it definaty added an element that photos don't.

6) Don't get upset if some people don't give a gift, 'cover their plate', etc. People have financial circumtances that aren't always revealed (and some are just cheap!). Don't let that stand in the way of friendships or family relationships.

That is a very good point

enjoy every second of it... you planned for it for days, months, even years.... the day is less then 12 hours long once you wake up and will be over before you know it...

limit your time to your guest so you can have a good time, dance, have a drink and most importantly, reflect on what you have accomplished

Re: Tips from us former brides to you future ones!

I'm reposting an email a co-workers husband sent me prior to the wedding:

I would like to share a piece of advice that we received that was very helpful in remembering our wedding day.

Before we got married, a friend of mine told me that everyone he spoke with can't really remember their own wedding day. They remember bits and pieces but not much detail. That's because you are so busy with the hair and the makeup and the limo and the photographs and the ceremony and the cocktail hour and the first dance and the cutting of the cake ... and suddenly it's over and you wonder where the day went.

But this friend told us the secret.

At least a couple of times during the day, especially during the reception, stop whatever you are doing and just look around - take it all in. During your reception, have your new spouse and you stop, hold each other's hand and just look around your reception hall - take it all in. Trust me it works. I've spoken to people who can't remember anything about their wedding day after a few months. It's been 11 years since we got married and I remember practically everything about that day. I even remember what the centerpieces on the tables looked like.

This advice was one of the best wedding gifts we received and I've shared it with soon-to-be-married couples ever since.

Just every once in a while ... stop what you're doing ... look around ... and take it all in.

I hope it works as well for you as it has for us
