OK, I know this is TMI, but Im really worried!! I suffer from excrutiating cramps when AF comes around. Its dibilitating and if I dont take medication, I cant even get out of bed!!! The ONLY thing that makes the pain 'tolerable' is Aleve. The directions say 2 tablets followed by one tablet ever 8-12 hours. Well the pain is so bad that I have to take 3 tablets followed by 2 tablets every 8 hours. I spoke to my gyn about this and she said there is no medication I can take that will be as powerful as what Im taking now. So fine, its been working for me with no complaints. Well, I just read in the newspaper that they are saying to be VERY careful with Aleve because now they are seeing signs of heart complications if the dosage is exceeded. Now I feel sick to my stomach because I've been taking this for years and because Im scared of the pain I will have to bear without it!!! To make matters worse I all ready have a heart murmur so I dont want to complicate things with the alleve. I really feel like throwing up. What am I gonna do?

I am right there with you sister.
I just read that too and I got so sad. Aleve is the only thing our there that takes my pain away. I don't know what to do. My family has a history of heart conditions and I have a heart defect to begin with. So I don't know if I should keep taking it. But I don't have any other pain relief options.

I thought I heard that it was bad to take it for ten or more consecutive days in a row I don't know about periodically! Don't worry!!

I use Aleve occasionally for headaches or if I sleep on my neck the wrong way. It works the best! I was upset to hear this news too, but hopefully they are just overeacting and another study will prove them wrong.

See a different GYN ! No doctor should encourage you to exceed the dosage of ANY medication ! And she is wrong, there are many medications she can TRY to help your pain ! My sister takes muscle relaxers, a friend of mine takes perscrption pain killers - (only once or twice during the month when the paid is unbearable) - Did she suggest birth control pills ? And lastly - not to make you panic, but excruciating pain can sometimes be an indicator that something is NOT right

I too have severe menstral cramps and cysts on my ovaries. I was taking aleve but I was not working as well, so I saw Womens tylenol in the store one day, and started taking it. And I think it works even better then the Aleeve. Give it a try.

Wouldnt you know what works for me now but plain old asprin!!!!!!!
Oh I am so sorry. I have been lucky to never have cramps but I understand your concern. FM

I take Celebrex believe it or not for ovulation pain. It's dibilitating for me. Doc says once every other month is not going to kill me. Until they take it off the shelves I will keep taking it. It works like crazy for me. I love it. I was taking vioxx before and it worked great too, unfortunately, I may soon have to find another drug..
Doc says there are others for that kind of pain. Get a second opinion.

I saw that on the news this morning. Call your doctor and ask him what he thinks....That is the best person to tell you what is bad.

Not for me. The pill has made them much worse.

I totally understand. My doc prescibed me with the prescription form of Aleve and told me to take 2 550mg capsules. I'm a little worried about the findings because I did that for years.

I'm on ortho-evra too and still get cramps occasionally, depending on the month.

Jenn, is it possible to get a second opinion regarding the meds? There are so many, there has got to be something out there that can help you!

I know exactly what you mean...tylenol does NOTHING for me with cramps or headaches or muscle sores or anything!!!
only Aleve works but i dont take it too regularly so lets do some research and see what the docs are saying and not just the yahoo.com news colums ok? We will find a answer
