had your wedding. Did anyone use a DOC? Was it necessary...

I didnt. I planned my wedding in 4 months and LIW was all I needed!! I worked full time and was a single mom at the same time, so IMO you can do it yourself and save money.

I had a DOC. In the long run I feel it was a complete, total waste of money. Probably the only thing that was beneficial of the DOC was the rehearsal dinner. We spent a LOT of money and we could have done without IMHO.

Unfortunately you really won't know if getting a DOC is needed until after your wedding. I know many that had wonderful experiences...

ETA: The DOC did NOT make any plans, or do any projects...I did them ALL myself. It was my wedding...I didn't need her input. As I'm reading these posts I think many do not understand what a DOC is for.

The purpose of a DOC is to make sure everything runs smoothly that day. There were MANY issues that should have been addressed by the DOC we hired that was NOT.

Needing a DOC definitely depends on a lot.

how big is your wedding?
how much detail do you have?
are you organized?

I had a very small wedding and was SUPER organized. so I didn't need one. I put a lot of faith in my Maitre D and she came through for me, BIGTIME! she got a big fat tip too

I did not have one, but wish I did. I planned the whole wedding pretty much by myself. My mom and sister live out of state. Dh was very helpful. A few things did fall through the cracks on the wedding day and I really think that a DOC would have prevented that. In the long run, it wasn't a big deal, but we did have a minor crisis that may have been avoided if I had DOC. If you have help organizing everything, I would say you don't need one.

I did not have one, and definitely did not need one.

I didn't have one. I was pretty organized even though I planned the wedding from MD. Without LIW I may have needed some help. I did however ask my aunt to look over the reception room before we got there to make sure things like seating cards and menus were set up correctly.

Didn't have one and didn't need one. The matra D did everything she was supposed to and there was nothing that would have been better or worse to have a DOC.

As posted above...... I did all the planning myself and in 5 months, did all the projects myself with help from DH and the wedding went smoothly

I did and it was the best money we spent!!!!!! I HIGHLY recommend it and recommend Laura from LA Productions.

I had one only because I had a lot of little details that I wanted one person to be responsible for. She also helped by dealing with pop up problems the day of.

i had one... could i have gone with her? probably yes... would i have been more stressed out, though? probably yes. but alot of things didn't go as planned on my day--- i say if you have a trusted friend/relative to watch out for unplanned things, you could go without one.

I had one and she was fantastic. I don't think it's necessarily a question of how big your wedding is going to be, because we only had 100 people. Thanks to my DOC (Elaine from Exquisite Events), on my wedding day I was able to just focus on the fact that I was getting married and I was able to enjoy that experience. I didn't reaize that on the day of, so many vendors would be coming to me with last minute questions/getting my approval on things. But Elaine took over and made sure that everything went exactly as I'd planned. It was such a relief having her there

I won the services of one and although she was great, I do not think it was necessary to have one at all.

I had a DOC and to me she was 100% necessary. She did EVERYTHING for me and my family that day and we didn't have to worry about a thing. She made sure all my details were executed exactly as I had specified. She made the day so much more stress free. I high recommend hiring a DOC.

Re: To all of you who have already

Had one and it was completely necessary for me. I did not want to spend one minute on logistics issues on our wedding day and I didn't want DH, our parents or our friends to do anything other than enjoy the day.

Personally, we should have met with a few more DOCs before hiring ours, but in the end she was very professional and did what we hired her to do.
