We are thinking of changing venues for money reasons. Does anyone know if they can charge administration fees? I know there is a cancellation policy in Suffolk but I don't know what it is.

To the best of my knowledge they are entitled to keep $100 and any moneys actually used toward your event... I can't imagine what they could have paid toward your event unless you went to a tasting or something that was after you booked. I would just send a letter stating you wish to cancel, asserting your rights under that law and requesting all deposits be returned and contact cancelled immediately.

When I cancelled, I recieved my entire deposit back. They didn't keep a dime.

I believe Suffolk law is as long as you cancel 6 months or more before the event, they can only keep $100 of your deposit. Individual halls may work differently and give everything back, but that may be based on popularity of the hall and date
