To all the elementary teachers

To all the elementary teachers

I'm doing my research paper on Children's Literature in Science Education. I'm going to discuss the false information that fictionalized books can often convey and in turn confuse students, but at the same time discuss how reviewed books can be good aides in teaching scientific concepts. My professor suggested that I also look at popular books that are not necessarily books for science but may be able to be taught in something science (if i made any sense there)

So what I'm asking of you, is if you can tell me what grade you teach and popular books that kids in your grade like to read. All i need is the title and author so I can read them and eventually try to find where I may be able to tie it in with something science. Thanks!

Re: To all the elementary teachers

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle comes to mind first...for teaching life-cycles/metamorphosis.

Re: To all the elementary teachers

I don't teach elem school but I've put 2 kids thru elem and have another one there now. Boys love the Dave Pilkey books (Captain Underpants) and Louis Sachar's Wayside School series.

Girls like Ramona Quimby series (I forget by who) and Junie B Jones books.

Good luck on your paper.

I love Magic School Bus books. I'm not sure of what's popular among the children regarding books they read for fun.

Right. I'm not particularly looking for science books. But from the books you guys say, Im going to try to see how to incorporate some science lesson to it.
