Re: to all those having E-parties
what are bene's??? I'm having one because my parents are hosting it. Plus, its pretty much just a backyard BBQ, nothing to expensive and fancy.

My mom is having one for us at her house. Nothing fancy at all. I see it as a way for my family to really get acquainted with his.

FH and I will have a BBQ this summer.
My friend did the Meadow Club @ $35++ a plate, and that was fun too, just not 'us'.

I am not having one - I find them unnecessary. anyone who wished to congratulate us will do so regardless in any way they see fit.

Re: to all those having E-parties
I wanted an e-party to celebrate our engagement with all our close family and friends. It was a nice way to to make a special occasion feel even more special. I had a great time at mine.

Re: to all those having E-parties
here is my take on it.
i had mine in february and it was awesome. it taught me that i absoltely want to eat at my wedding since i didn't eat and was sick as a dog the next day.
it got my family together (both sides) which hasn't happened in four years, plus they got to meet some of his family and friends.
i got to ask all my BM's personally to be in my wedding and it was a special private moment (i made them cards and gave each away).
i got to celebrate and have fun.
the bad part for us, we paid for it all. but we found people were very generous since they knew we did.
we had to prepare a lot for it since it was at a hall. we had to clean up the next day too.
there was some drama with the date but otherwise, it was ok. (plus a big traffic problem that caused peopel to be late - but with the open house mentatlity, it was fine).
i knew i always wanted one and so it was important to me. but if you don't care, skip it. we never got to celebrate too much because we got engaged and then were seperated (two different states).

My mom wanted to give us one, so we are having it. It will also be a good opportunity for our parents to meet.

That is one reason to have it- even though we've been together more than 10 years! our parents have never really spent any time together at all. My mom met his mome ONCE, by accident in front of a Mickey D's like 7 years ago.....
then there is the expense....but I don' t think the first time they really get together should be the rehearsal dinner either.

Re: to all those having E-parties
We're doing it instead of an engagement announcement. Also all of the FH family and most of our friends are in the Boston area. We are having one up there, so those that won't/can't travel for our wedding can still celebrate it with us.

Any excuse for a party! I also feel like it will tide you over until the wedding My girlfriends from college live all over the country, and this will be a good time to have a mini-reunion before the wedding.
