To All Who Own a High Ranch...

Please post pics of your Kitchen. You guys all know that our Kitchens aren't enormous to say the least and still DH & I were quoted $40,000 to get everything done.

Please let me know that there's hope out there.

Unfortunately if you are completely redoing the kitchen that price sounds about right. Are you getting all high end stuff (granite, new appliances, new floor, cabinets)?

I know my kitchen in my HR has a ton of cabinets so that right there is a ton of money.

$40k is a good price...Danielles parents redid their kitchen in their cape and the price was around $60k...and they got all top end stuff too.

WOW thats a lot of $$$

We have a HR too but all of our appliances are pretty new. I hate tha cabinets so we were going to buy cabinets but then decided to just reface the existing ones and its a LOTTTT cheaper. We put a tile floor in too and wallpapaer and wainscoting, but DH was a contractor for 14 years and does everything himself so we save a lotttt to money.

Did you get quotes from Home Depot, Lowes and/or Sears?

We looked at home depote and lowes, didn't think of sears but the quote is form kitchen magic and nda. It's just such a big investment - but it's one of those that if done right not done again ya know.

Have you looked in to refacing? If the inside of the cabinets is OK you can reface the ouside. You could also buy the do it yourself cabinets which are cheaper. Lowes and HD have them right on the aisles and you just take what you need. Some of them are really nice.

For appliances, Lowes sells their floor models for cheaper - we bought our fridge from them as a floor model. It had one tiny scratch on the side which was the side that faces the wall so you dont even see it. It was originally $1299 and we got it for $500.

We got quoted $35,000 for everything. Not that we can afford it but maybe you should shop around a bit more before settling for that $40k price -- the quote we got was only from the first person we went to go see!!

We just completly redid our kitchen but did not spend that much! Are you guys handy? We did the work outselves and saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
There is a thread somewhere in this home section with pictures detailing the whole thing.
I will try to find it and bump it for you.
It's hard work doing it yourself but very satisfying.

ETA I meant to say we saved thousands of dollars...I don't know why I only put hundreds.

No my kitchen isnt an eat it I do have a dining room but as of right now I have a folding banquet table and 4 folding chairs around it with a picnic table cloth on it. The kitchen looks really nice but once you see it and live and work in it you realize how they did it them selves.

I want everything perfect and this kitchen was put together by people that didnt know what they were doing, there are screws hanging out everywhere. The dishwasher just broke and we found out that they tiled the kitchen counter to the dishwasher so I might have to crack up the counter to replace or repair the dishwasher. Very half a$$'d and annoying.

Good luck and honestly spend the couple of extra bucks here and there and the right job so it dosnt cost you 3x the amount later.
