I was just thinking, how are all you girls dealing with your honeymoons? are you just waiting until the next available school break?
doing a mini-moon weekend trip after the wedding maybe? trying to figure out when i will plan the honeymoon, it's looking like I'm gonna wait until july because of school schedules....

Re: to all you teachers out there!
This i s why we are getting married in Feb right before Feb break. I really did not want to have to get married on the weekend and go back to school on Monday. Blah.

Re: to all you teachers out there!
originally i was thinking may 4th and worrying about this....I was figuring I'd take a day off before and after and then have to wait until July.
Now that I'm 6/29 it works out a lot better

i'm not a teacher but all i could think of after reading this post was about the articles that came out about the teachers who were 'sick' for their honeymoon and had all the pics on FB. It stinks you are limited to the school breaks for your HM!!

My wedding is Saturday and the following Thursday starts Spring Break. I don't mind going in for a few days as a Mrs. then going on a honeymoon

Personally, I feel our sick/personal days should be our time. Especially if you are someone who doesn't abuse it. Some of those teachers were also fined $7500. I remember our principal telling us about it back in the beginning of the school year.
I'm getting married in July, but had we gotten married during the school year, I probably would have just waited until the next break. Stinks that those are always the most expensive times to travel too!

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Because I'm a teacher I decided to get married in the summer. I didn't want to try to plan my wedding or honeymoon around a 1 week break during the school year. We picked July 20th because I'm a city teacher and we end so much later and I will have time in between packing up my classroom, planning for last min wedding stuff and packing for a honeymoon that I won't get too stressed.

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Future teacher here! We are getting married the week before Thanksgiving 2012, so I figured I would just take off Monday-Wednesday, and have a whole week off. I will definitely use personal days to take off. I really don't care, if I'm entitled to days off, then I will use them as I see fit!

Re: to all you teachers out there!
1112bride...just be careful before you make plans to take those three days off...teacher contracts are very specific about what personal days can be used for. I have never seen a contract that allows for honeymoon (I am a school lawyer). You don't want to loose a job just to have a honeymoon I would think.
Just a heads up...

like Mara said, just be careful, because I see you said 'future' teacher....so that means next year will be your first year?
you only get usually 2 personal days a year, and you don't have to disclose the reason, hence 'personal', but when they do your first year evaluations they put down how many days you took off, when, etc. one day here or there, fine...but first year I wouldnt even take a sick day!

Re: to all you teachers out there!
This is why we are getting married in July. We are both teachers and it would be too stressful to try and plan around a one week vacation. Especially since we would like to go to Hawaii for at least 10 days! But I also work with a few ladies who have gotten married during the school year and either waited for a vacation or summer to take their honeymoon!

And whether you have to disclose or not depends on the district. A lot of my districts have a form thAt has to be filled out and the personal days can only be used for certain things. If caught using for other reasons a nontenured teacher could be let go

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Thanks for the heads up. From what I understood, in NYC schools, you accumulate 1 sick day a month. Like when you are on 'maternity leave', since there's no actual maternity leave, the time you take off is taken away from your sick days, and you're not actually ''sick''.
What's up with teachers not having maternity leave anyway? I know it's totally off topic, but it just pisses me off, because MOST teacher are women. What gives?
