I was just thinking, how are all you girls dealing with your honeymoons? are you just waiting until the next available school break?
doing a mini-moon weekend trip after the wedding maybe? trying to figure out when i will plan the honeymoon, it's looking like I'm gonna wait until july because of school schedules....

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Under FMLA you are entited to 12 weeks unpaid. All teachers have the best leave entitlements. Most contracts allow for the teacher to take one or two years off and they will keep the job open. It is unpaid unless you have time saved.
I know if I took a year off there is no guarantee my job will be there

Thanks for the heads up. From what I understood, in NYC schools, you accumulate 1 sick day a month. Like when you are on 'maternity leave', since there's no actual maternity leave, the time you take off is taken away from your sick days, and you're not actually ''sick''.
What's up with teachers not having maternity leave anyway? I know it's totally off topic, but it just pisses me off, because MOST teacher are women. What gives?
I'm a NYC public school teacher and we get maternity leave without it taking away our sick days. If you take more time than the leave permits, then it takes from your sick days.

Re: to all you teachers out there!
FH is graduating this May as a Physical Education teacher, so we are hoping we have this problem next year when we decide on the honeymoon!! lol We are definitely staying at a hotel that night anyway and maybe even saturday night just to keep it a minimoon if he can't even get off that next monday.
Since I have all you teachers gathered can I ask you a question? My wedding is the friday after Easter and the second to last day of Passover (Passover starts the day before Easter in 2012). I know this will be the week off for Catholic schools, but because of Passover, will this also be the public school week off??

Re: to all you teachers out there!
That would be awesome, thanks Donna!
FH is actually just getting his Bachelor's now at Adelphi and then has to figure out where he is doing his masters! Maybe Hofstra but he is tempted to do it online, his SIL did that!

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Jenni- NYC public schools are closed April 6th-13th, 2012. We return to school on April 16th. Hope that helps!
Does FH know what he is going to go for his MA in? I strongly suggest Special Education. (Just as someone who is in the field) If he is PE and SWD certified, it gives more options to be hired. We have a PE teacher who actualy does APE (Adaptive Phys Ed) for students with disabilities in my school. He said it was the only way he was able to get a job (and of course he likes what he does!)
Just thought I would throw that out there! I know SE is not for everyone, but if he would like it, it's definitely worth a shot.

Re: to all you teachers out there!
I'm a teacher in a NYC private special education school, so I unfortunately work through the summer! Getting married next March and just waiting it out to take the honeymoon. We're also not entitled to any personal days until we've been there a year!! Getting married on a Friday next year, so definitely using one of the ones I'm entitled to.

2011 crashing
our wedding is in sep and we're doing the HM either the feb or apr break, FH wants feb (the sooner the better) and I want apr ('cause by then we'll have extra money from our taxes)

Re: to all you teachers out there!
Do NYC schools have off at different times than Long Island Schools? Just by looking at the calendar, I think NYC schools will start their spring break from Good Friday - April 5 and return to school on April 16.
You have FM

Re: to all you teachers out there!
IDK i was trying to figure this out..I work at a private special education school so we go year round. we have a week off in june and then in august we have about 2. Im getting married memorial day weekend..so im taking off probably thur friday and then tuesday and maybe wednesday... as far as hm im trying to decide if we should just go that week and ill take some days off, or if we should go in june with my week off (since its only a month later) or august with two weeks. not sure!
