Trying to figure out if we should block hotel rooms. I am getting married at Larkfield Manor on Memorial Day weekend (Sunday) wedding goes until midnight. I live about 40 minutes away..where most guests are coming from that area. I also do have some friends coming from oot (i went to college in MD). Not sure how many OOT guests we are going to have..does it make sense to block rooms even if i have no idea how many will be using a hotel room?
Part of me thinks its a nice option since we are on the younger side (im 24 hes 28) so we ar egoing to have a younger crowd..better safe than sorry.
Part of me thinks i have nothing to lose by locking them in since it is memorial day weekend and its cheaper if we block them then if we dont.
The other part of me thinks its not neccessary since we have no idea who would take advantage of this
Thanks girls :)

Re: to block or not to block
I feel like it would be a good idea. I was going to block rooms for mine (and its nto a holiday weekend) even though a lot of people are local. Manylocals said to me that they'd rather stay in a hotel so they don't have to drive. Especially Memorial Day weekend, cops will be everywhere, you don't want one of your guests to get pulled over. Think of the OOT guests, who will have to pay an arm and a leg....they will def appreciate it.
I say block away

Re: to block or not to block
I think it really all depends on the hotel and whether they charge you or not for blocking out the rooms. The hotel that I'm using doesn't make me guarantee a certain number or have me put any money upfront. To me I see it as a win/win situation: if people do actually want to stay over a room has been blocked out at a cheaper price for them and if noone decides to stay over at least it doesn't cost me anything. HTH!

I agree it depends on the hotel. With our block, we have no financial responsibility, so we went ahead with it.

This...definitely just find a hotel that doesnt make you guarantee a minimum!

Re: to block or not to block
I would recommend booking a few rooms, especially for Memorial Day weekend. The hotel usually releases the rooms if no one books about a month before the wedding.
My hotel didn't charge me so we went ahead and booked it. It's always good to have this as an option.

Re: to block or not to block
I was wondering the same thing. Good question. Our oot guests will most likely be staying in Suffolk County closer to us were our families live. We are getting married in Nassau about 35 minutes away. Anyone that does stay in a hotel in Nassau would be people that dont want to drive home or want to drink that night.
Should I do a block in Nassau & Suffolk?

I think its a good idea...just block a smaller number of rooms. Anybody from out of town will certainly be staying over. Also, if you do the block you can prob take advantage of a free shuttle...
What hotel are you thinking of using? I'm a larkfield bride but have not really looked into hotel much yet...

Def do it if no oligation to book a certain amount of rooms. We have some from OOT so we def need a block and then we are staying at the hotel after as are some locals.

I'd only block in one and would do it in Nassau so people don't need to worry about driving after the wedding.
