To Do or Not to Do?

To Do or Not to Do?

Is anyone not doing favors?

I think my mother will have a heart attack but i dont really care for the idea of favors-- In our tradition we give jordon almonds as good luck -- so I would give those in a pretty box and I also
read somewhere an idea of giving the valet attendants roses with thank you cards attached to them, so that they can leave it in the car when they bring your guests their car at the end of the night.

I like that idea alot.. but it isnt exactly a favor .. i would probably do it regardless of whether or not I did actual favors though.

So is it really unheard of to skip out on favors??

Btw has anyone else read that idea about the roses given out by the valets? I read it in an article somewhere that had a ton of great ideas.. like 100 'unique' ideas.,, and now I cannot remember at all where I read that article!!

I think it is totally fine to skip out on a favor - JMO. Even my FH's very old fashioned mother told me to just skip the favor. I am doing a candy bar for like $300 bucks when it's all said and done but I really did think about skipping it. The reason I did the candy bar is because we LOVE candy and it's sooo us. (I opened the lolipops and I keep eyeing the rest of the candy so I might eat it all before the wedding and end up with no favor!) But really, I think it's ok.

And that's such a cute idea about giving all the ladies a rose or something at valet! You could really do just that. It's the ladies who appreciate the favors more anyways.

I never heard of the rose but it sounds great...As for favors most people never look @ them again, they are thrown in a closet or something.

I totally agree with Betty Boop! Last favor I got was a wine opener and don't ask me where it went so it ended up being a waste. You know what I love that I have seen, the lottery scratch off's. I think that is so great and EVERYONE will love it!

I am doing favors, but not spending a ton on them. However, I don't think its wrong to skip them either. Many people are doing it now. That or they are donating to a great charity that has special meaning to them in your name, so to speak. At least it won't be a favor that no one uses...

That's the key a favor that will be eaten, appreciated, and not have to be 'stored' somewhere at home

IMO favors are like bridesmaids dresses, most will like at least one aspect of them,no one will love them as much as you

Totally OK to skip the favors. I just went to a wedding where there weren't any and I didn't miss it at all. Like the previous brides said, most of them are not very useful.
If you do do the roses (I love that idea and that is more than enough to 'count' as a favor by the way!!!) discuss it with the valet company way in advance to make sure they will do it...and before you order the roses! Or, you can have the RH put the rose on each guest's plate before they come in for dinner so guests see it first thing when they enter the ballroom!

I am not into favors. I think you should just pass. I feel like most of the time they get tossed out and its a waste of money.
We provide a traditional black cake in a box for guests, which is homemade (cultural thing). I may or may not decide to give a favor or just go with the cake. OR go with cake and donation to charity.

We're doing a donation, but I have my reservations about not giving something out too. I was thinking food. There's this company called the crispery, which does really cute rice crispy treat or maybe Hamptons popcorn. I mentioned my idea to 2 close freinds and both said skip the food - it's totally unnecessary. I'm still kind of torn though.

I agree, I feel that you need to do something. I mean there are so many inexpensive options out there, .99 cents store, candy etc. My cuz put airfreshers in all the cards and we thought it was really cute.

We are doing the donation favor. Most charities will give you a nice scroll letter to give to your guest so they at least feel like they walked away with something in their hand.

I make chocolates - so I'm making chocolate bars that say 'thank you for sharing our special day'

And i'm buying all the DIY boxes at Michael's and putting a label on the back 'hand made with love' or something like that...

all in all - it's going to cost less than $100 - just needs a lot of labor.

Edible is key!

We did not do favors, and I don't think they were missed at all. I have only received a favor at one wedding ever, and DH didn't even remember that we got one. We put that favor in a bag and I haven't seen it since.

Us too. Half of the favors I get I end up not keeping. I feel bad, but hey it is what it is.

I have been to a dozen weddings in the past three years, and only remember one favor. It was a small silver frame, which I ended up keeping and eventually using for my own engagement photo. Instead of favors, we are doing a donation - in this crazy economy, non-profits are so strapped. If there is an organization that you believe in, your friends and loved ones will appreciate that you made a donation in their name...
