My husband and I are trying to decide whether we should find out the sex of the baby. Can you share your opinions on the pros and cons of finding out the sex vs. keeping it a surprise? This will be our 3rd child.

Re: To find out the sex or not?
DH and I don't want to know. There are so few surprises in life, this should be the most special one.
Granted, medical technology is a wonderful thing, and we would definitely want to know if there are any problems, etc, but this is one piece of information we don't want to know.
There's something about calling relatives and saying 'It's a boy' or 'It's a girl'. Saying 'Johnny's here' or 'Sally's here' while wonderful is a bit anti-climactic.

We aren't finding out! I feel that i can decorate my babys room after its born too because the baby will be sleeping in our bedroom anyway, so it will give us time to paint and decorate the room. Plus i feel its so exciting for us and everyone else to guess what it is!!

Re: To find out the sex or not?
I wanted to find out and DH didn't, but he caved before we even left the doctor's office after the level 2. Although the baby's gender won't be a surprise (if the doctor is right ) everything else about him will - who he looks like, what color eyes he has, his size, his cry - everything. DH has been working on the nursery for months now and still isn't finished, so there is no way we would have been able to complete it after the baby was born. Gender specific clothes are so much cuter too.
Also, if you are one of those people who is really hoping for a girl but it's a boy (or vice versa), knowing ahead of time would give you time to find out all the wonderful things about the gender you're having so you won't be disappointed at the birth (I know it sounds horrible, but I do know some people who just were not excited when the baby was not what they hoped for).
Knowing ahead of time of more practical, and I am a practical person. I'm not much for surprises! Most importantly, I just want a healthy baby.
We found no less joy as she came out than if we hadn't known what she was. We bonded a bit better and her room looks great!

I'm not pregnant yet. But, I would like to know for the first child. The second, third and fourth child could be a suprise!
My friend's sister wanted to be surprised and she didn't know the sex for many months until the nurse or doctor accidently blurted out!

Re: To find out the sex or not?
I was just thinking about this post the other day. Though we found out that we're having a boy, DH's brother does NOT want to know what we're having. So now we have to be careful of what we say in front of him, because he wants to be surprised. I was kind of shocked to hear this, but I think of a lot of it (finding out or not) has to do more with personal preference than anything else.

Re: To find out the sex or not?
I think the biggest surprise is what your baby looks like... and whether you know in advance if its a boy or girl or not...nothing will change that surprise.
I am finding out as soon as possible...I never even gave the question a second thought, but thats me and how I am... Not good with the surprises... SOmething different works for everyone...You just gotta do what YOU and DH want!!!

Re: To find out the sex or not?
Eveyrone is different but to me, there are not many surprises in life so we are waiting. Having neutral colors to me makes it easier so when the second baby comes (if you want a second), the room is already done :) or some people may keep that the boys room and move the crib to another room and create another nursery, however, you have to get new bedding then.

We did not find out and I would never have it any other way!! Who cares about neutral colors!! This is the biggest surprise of your entire lives! That second right after the delivery when I looked down and saw that Angela was a girl was such an experience! At first we thought we would find out for the next one, but no way! I strongly recommend waiting, it was so worth it!
Agreed.
I second that!! Even with Jeremy it was as surprising as it was with Emma. The sex doesnt matter... you will love him/her just the same.

I totally agree with you my FH wanted to find out but I didn't I think its more fun to be suprised and the neutral colors aen't bad at all its what you accent the room with I did the room sage green and yellow and then put stars clouds and moons. So it was for either a boy or a girl after she was born I did other things to make it girly

Re: To find out the sex or not?
We opted to find out the sex of our baby, everyone says that its more of a surprise to find out when the baby is born, but we were just as excited when the sono tech told us at my 17 week sonogram.
