Are you thinking of getting video from the same photography company? If so you can always wait to make the decision. Just write in the contract to have the option to add video for the quoted price in case the price raises by the timeyou decide.

I think it's a nice memory to have. It will be nice to look back at the video after 20 yrs. I was at my aunt & uncle's house last Saturday for my cousin's birthday and they put in their wedding tape from 1991. It was sooo funny looking at how young we all were and now most of us (neice's & nephew's in BP) are married or are getting married!!!!
just my opinion...it's up to you.

Im going through the same thing. At first I didn't want it, then Im thinking I may regret it. But, we have like zero budget for one. So I basically would be happy with home video quality, but can't find a video place that just gives raw footage. So I may try to get a student or something like that. We seriously can't spend over $450 on video so using a professional seems to be out of the question.

Are you having a DJ? Lots of the DJ's have the camera's for the plasma TV's and they record the reception. Our DJ recorded our engagement party and gave us the footage on DVD free of charge.

I was having the same debate with FH.
A friend of mine who got married last year said that the video is great because you miss sooooo much on your wedding day because you're everywhere (example.... everyone walking down the aisle... silly moments from the dance floor...). With a video you get to see every aspect of your wedding. I think it's such a great idea. You can be very specific with your videographer about what you want and don't want (example... I DON'T want a mic in everyone's face and I want him/her to act like they're not even there, if that's possible).
Good luck Meg!!

I definitely want to get a video. It's something you'll always have and it's a great memory of your wedding day.

I actually booked my videographer and then cancelled bc it was an extra $2000, and i didnt think it was that important......
what i decided to do is buy a new camera.. which is only like maybe 500 and pass it around. i think the best videos will come from my guests.. they will be silly and fun

Re: to get it or not to get it?
I am adamant about getting a video. My brother was married before my father died. He has great footage of everyone laughing and dancing on his wedding day. I want to be able to preserve my loved ones enjoying themselves in something other than still photographs.
Do it.

Re: to get it or not to get it?
HONESTLY I was set on two things from the day i got engaged - NO video, and doing my own make up
LOL those two things went out the window - so many brides told me i would regret it - and i know that i shouldnt just listen to people BUT if THAT many people say they love their video and would be upset if they didnt have one. . . there has to be some truth to it!
my parents got married WAY before video and i would love to see their wedding video - pictures just aren't the same!
i say just suck it up and do it - its one of the few things that last AFTER the wedding. . .

Did you see some examples? I was thinking of possibly just doing video for the ceremony but when I saw how it would come out I decided I wanted it. Ask to see examples possibly from others at your ceremony and reception location. It may help you decide.

Re: to get it or not to get it?
I am not getting video. Mostly because I hate to watch myself on camera!! My FH and I know that we would really never want to watch it, so for that reason we aren't going to bother.
However -- as some of the other girls mentioned -- we will probably pass a digital video camera around and give one of my teenage cousins a $50 Best Buy gift card or something to film the ceremony, and I believe my DJ films at his events as well, so if someone else (our parents, etc.) wanted to watch it, we would have that for them.

'mom its 2007 not 1977 (thatswhen they got marrie) things CHANGE'... god shes starting to drive me insane!

Re: to get it or not to get it?
Honestly, it sounds to me like you may regret it later if you don't. You only get to do this once so make sure it's a decision you make with FH. Especially since it's you two paying for it! My father offered his opinion of not getting it. I was undecided and FH said he definately wanted it so we went with it.
