OK, my best friend called me today. She was planning a trip to Myrtle Beach in mid Sept. with a co-worker friend, and the hotel has been booked. She asked if I'd be into going. I know we'd have a GREAT time, but I feel guilty because of the $$. It's $450, from Friday to Monday. My FI is telling me he doesnt want to go on a fishing trip with his friends because it's $100, so how can I not feel guilty about spending $450?? (My FI, by the way, thinks I should go)
What do you think???
Edited to say: The co-worker cancelled.

Re: To go or not to go???
I am not going to tell you what to do, since I think your mind is already made up, but I will tell you that I had the same type of opportunity for this coming weekend, and I turned it down. The guilt was too much considering the money we need to save. But then again, if FH says it's ok.......

If your FH wants you to go then go!! BUT...make sure he is not saying it to use against you in the future. Like, he wants a new set of golf clubs or a power tool and you say no...and he says 'But I let you go on that Myrtle Beach trip!'
Have fun

Re: To go or not to go???
I agree with MrsT - as long as FI won't hold it against you later, I say go and have a great time!!!
Is there anything you can do to save some extra cash so you won't feel so guilty? If you manage to save 3 or 4 dollars a day, that will give you most of the cash for the trip. That's a magazine, specialty coffee, bringing lunch one or two days a week, etc.
Thanks, guys! We can't both go because we're going to Florida for a week in November and he doesn't have enough vacation time yet.
I'm still on the fence about what to do...

I think you should go but only if you will have fun - if you are going to be feeling guilty all weeek and it will ruin your vacation then stay home.
Guess I didn't help much huh?

I think you should do what you think is right... you know deep down how you feel - so, go with it.

If your FI is not going on a $100 trip, I dont think its right to spend 4x as much on your trip. Myrtle Beach isnt that great and there will be other fun times to be had.

DH gets a lot of invitations out for 'weekends away'. So when one comes my way ... I GO!!! No hesitations, nothing. I say GO & enjoy ... You deserve it!
By the way .... what happened with the email situation?

Re: To go or not to go???
Christine,
Good memory Basically, it turned into this big thing because I was so bothered by it. He explained why he did it, and I honestly do believe him. I told him everyone is entitled to alittle privacy, but I couldn't feel like he was keeping stuff from me, which he totally understood. He apoplogized, and admitted that he wouldn't have been very happy about it if the roles were reversed, but he really didn't think about it before he did it.
About the trip...I DO tell him to go when his friends ask him to do things (like the $100 fishing trip) but he just doesn't. I'm still not sure if I'm going or not. I know I'd have a blast, but I still feel alittle guilty
