To group dance... or not

I don't like group dances (electric slide, macarena etc).. however I know that my FMIL is all heartbroken over the fact that I do not want to play cotton eye joe.

I originally said no to the group dances but the moms and aunts are all now saying that everyone 'loves them' (i dont agree!)

So I am taking a poll. Do I says 'its my wedding deal with it' or do i give in and appease the crazy old ladies

We aren't doing group dances, or having inflatable guitars, leis or a dj that is going to talk to much - I just won't have it - LOL!

I agree with you -- I totally hate them! But my mom and even my dad were guilting me a TON about it!!! I can't stand those group dances, but just because i hate them doesn't mean I want people miserable and missing them at our wedding!

I'm totally at a loss.

My mom wants the electric slide. Maybe I can ask the DJ to play it when I'm in the bathroom or something. HAHA!!

I voted for just 1. Make them happy but thats it b/c otherwise it will get out of control.

i dont like them either!! i dont want any played but the electric slide is kinda something i always danced with my dad at family functions! lol
i dont wanna play it really , but if he wants it then ill throw it in just for him!

cotten eye joe is not sooo bad! lol

You sound like me. I am pretty sure I said this exact line to my DJ first time I met him and he was laughing.

I told FMIL I would play cotton eye joe for her when I went to freshen up but she wants me to dance it with her. Dammit people!

No no no no no! We are not having any of them because WE don't like them. I don't care what anyone else wants, I will not be listening to Cotton Eyed Joe, The Marcarena, The Chicken Dance or any other group dancing cr@p at my wedding! *bridezilla rant over*

I can't stand those dances and I'm not doing it. I know some people will be disappointed, but I'm sure they'll get over it. I've been to plenty of weddings where I didn't like their song choices.....

If FH has his heart set on Cotton Eye Joe I would give it to him. i personally hate group dances, but sometimes its those dances that are the only thing that get people on the dance floor and start the night out. If I was having a DJ I would have said no group dances unless its absolutely necessary to get people on the dance floor.

I didn't let my DJ play any. I even told him I don't care if people make requests, but not to give in if one of those requests came in!

I vote NO NO NO!

BUT if you are feeling pressured then you could do just one to make them happy.

My friend wants the chicken dance. I say NO NO!!! IF and that's a big IF we have ANY of these dances.. it would be the electric slide. but I really don't want that one either.
