I don't like group dances (electric slide, macarena etc).. however I know that my FMIL is all heartbroken over the fact that I do not want to play cotton eye joe.
I originally said no to the group dances but the moms and aunts are all now saying that everyone 'loves them' (i dont agree!)
So I am taking a poll. Do I says 'its my wedding deal with it' or do i give in and appease the crazy old ladies

Re: To group dance... or not
we're having a band....so thankfully, the group dances are not an option....especially since our band is not a typical 'wedding band'.....whew..... but of course....to each his own.

I didnt have any and no one missed them....The dance floor was still packed all night. I say do what you and FH want not what everyone else says.

Re: To group dance... or not
I say no...maybe the electric slide for us, but that's it.
I'm having the same problem...even worse..FMIL wants to hire professional dancers to 'teach' the guests how to dance. (They are Filipino and love line dancing/tango/cha-cha, etc). I told FH I will leave my own wedding if she does.
I'm telling the DJ NO tango, NO cha-cha, NO line dancing, and NO requests.

Honestly, I felt the same way but now I think they're a part of the wedding and, like it or not, they really get people going! I said absolutely NOT to group dances but many of the older people were requesting them from the DJ. The DJ came over to me and asked me if it was OK if he played them because so many people had asked. I said OK, fine, but electric slide only. Almost every single person was on the dance floor. No one sat it out and no one was like oh, this is so lame. Everyone was smiling and having a great time and it really got them going, especially the older folks. I recommend at least one

i wasnt thrilled with the idea either, but i think if you dont have at least 1 people may miss that interaction... esp if you're like me and not having garter/bok toss and all that other stuff
