Help! Im so not sure if I should have an MC or not. Me and my fiance both come from huge Italian family who love to party and dont need any help on the dance floor. Im just nervous that just having the DJ isnt going to be enough. Please let me know if your having a DJ or a DJ and MC and your thoughts. Thanks grls.

Re: To have an MC or not?
we did not book one bc we felt it wasnt really necessary...but i am torn now too.
since we booked I was at one wedding with an MC where the MC did nothing so it was super pointless for him to be there. Another wedding I have been to since had an awesome MC...we might consider adding one but havent decided yet.

not having an MC... ive been to both...
my family nor I need help getting on the dance floor... the MC at my cousins wedding last summer was annoying, and obsessed with the Best Man... he was taking attention away from the bride and groom... everyone commented on how strange it was...
Besides my DJ knows me and my friends and most of both of our families so he is better than any MC we could ever get!

I'm having a DJ that will also MC. I think if you have a large amount of guest attending than you may need both.

I was afraid that an MC would get 'annoying' if i feel like he is being over the top i am going to tell him to turn it down

My major concern is that they are going to be chessy and annoying, plus the fact that the DJ co wanted an extra 1000 bucks for him. Crazy!

Re: To have an MC or not?
We decided to get one. It wasn't that much more money to include one for the packages they offered.

Re: To have an MC or not?
after a certain amount of people they rec getting one (maybe above 75 peeps?).
we might need a little help getting peeps up on the dance floor so we opted for one. we looked at quite a few places though because of the cheese factor and just picked one that was down to earth.

Re: To have an MC or not?
I am not having an MC. I don't want someone who will leave the DJ booth and be obnoxious on the dance floor. I am VERY concerned about having an obnoxious and loud DJ and/or MC so that is why I am only having a DJ.

Re: To have an MC or not?
ok.. this is my take on MC's...
Imo, it's not about getting the crowd up. For a bar miztvah and sweet 16's yes (but you also normally have dancers ( ) for that).
The MC, again imo, is the most important person aside from your matre'd b/c he is basically running the show. Are there DJ's who also do well as MC's? Yes. But, again in my experience, most DJ's are NOT MC's. They are only DJ's and just say a few things here and there over the mic.
I also think it depends on the size of your wedding. For 'smaller' weddings (75-100 or below) then i think a MC/DJ combo is fine. For anything larger i would suggest separate people.
A 'good' MC does not stay behind the DJ booth the entire night (which i've seen happen many times at weddings). A good and experienced MC is physically out on the dance floor making the announcements (grand entrances, speaches, garter, bo-k toss, cake cutting etc) and coordinating dance sets (length & time) w/the matre'd. A good MC add's to your dance sets. He doesn't make them and shouldn't take away from them. It's def do-able but i it's feel harder when that person is stuck behind the DJ booth the entire time.
Again, this is just my opinion from experience.

Re: To have an MC or not?
MC is a must..( I'm getting married at Russo's 3 weeks before you.. which room are you having your wedding in?)
We are not having an MC - its a DJ/MC combo - I just don't think we need it...
